STDs/hotel

Got our STD's from Shutterfly today! I love them. Not sure when we are going to send them out yet. They direct people to our wedding website for more info, and on the website I want to include hotel block information. Here's where I'm not sure what to do. Our wedding is on the Monday of Memorial Day weekend. I'm not sure how group rates at hotels work. Is there a minimum number of rooms? I'm not sure which nights to "reserve" or how many rooms... We are inviting a little more than 100 guests, and most people live within half an hour of the venue... I know the hotel will probably have suggestions, I just want to have some sort of idea before calling them.

Re: STDs/hotel

  • Date twin!! Since you have guests that are pretty close to the area, I would think reserving for that Sunday and Monday will be fine. Most hotels do a block for 10 or more rooms.
  • The way it worked with my hotel, we could reserve 20 rooms for the night of the wedding. If it looks like those rooms are filling up, my rep will call me & reserve more rooms for us. We also have 5 rooms reserved for the night before the wedding. If we wanted to reserve MORE than 20 rooms up front we'd have to sign a contract saying that we're responsible for any rooms that didn't get booked. We opted not to do that though because I really have no idea how many people plan to stay over & I don't want to get stuck paying for rooms.

  • Most hotels block off at least 10 and will add on rooms if there are more reservations. You should NOT have to put down a deposit or credit card number to put a block in place, if they do- run far far away.

The hotel I made a block with automatically blocked rooms the night before and night of.
