Budget & Numbers

Numbers & money can be uncomfortable to talk about.. but b/c this board has a fantastic group of ladies, I'm not too nervous to start this chat! What is your budget for your wedding? How much do you have saved right now? And whos contributing?

FI & I have $5000 saved up as of right now (we've put deposits down on a lot of things)
We are putting $150.00 each payday into our wedding savings fund (just bumped it up from $100 to $150) (alternating paydays, $600.00-$750.00/month into savings)
FI's parents are contributing $5000.00
My parents gave us $3000.00 shortly after getting engaged & want to help with more

So by the time May rolls around, we should have just over $16,000. We're not going extravegent (180 guests, reception at a hotel, buffet dinner, toonie bar, dance) for our wedding so I think this budget is pretty good.

Anyone else want to share??

Re: Budget & Numbers

  • We set our budget at 12k and is saving a 100 a pay period. My mom is helping with whatever, didnt give me a set amount which I wish she would. As of now FI parents not helping with anything. I have estimated everything and so far we will be under budget by 1k which will be (as long as everything goes right) spending money for the honeymoon.

  • Our budget is 12k... I would like to come in under if we can and as of now we are about 2000 under budget (whoop whoop!!!) lol

We are covering our wedding 100% so no help unless our families surprise us. We have been saving for about a 2 years...

As of now we have about 7500 saved up. Still have some deposits to put down though. Now that FI is laid off I am in major save money mode. I get paid semi-monthly so from my first check I will take out about 400 and my end of the month check I take out 250. (gotta love bills at the end of the month). As of now I told FI not to stress about putting money into the wedding saving acct because I didn't want him to stress about his other finances. I also babysit for a few families and whatever I get from that goes right into our savings account. I am not too stressed about our budget all that much.

  • Our budget is about $20k.  We both have giant families, so we're looking at approx 300-350 guests.
My mom is contributing $10k.  So far, she's covered the dress and half of the deposit on the reception venue, leaving us about $9k for other stuff.
We have saved up about $3000 so far, and given what our tax returns were this year, we should be able to double that at tax time next year.  Additionally, I am putting $50 a month in, and FI signed up to have an extra $1 put into the account every time he uses his check card.
We've paid deposits on the venues, bought his ring, deposit on DJ, and paid for STDs.  We'll be buying my ring this month because the jewelry store gave me a $50 coupon for my birthday.
We've talked to his parents, but are not sure what they are contributing yet.  They will most likely do the rehearsal dinner, and I'm pretty sure his dad will offer to pay for something else - possibly the beer and wine at the reception.  I know that they paid a lot for his brother's and his sister's weddings, so I'm fairly confident that we'll get something too.

Whatever isn't covered by those things will probably go on the credit card, or we'll take out a loan or a home equity loan.  We are both working on wiping out our outstanding debt.  He's getting really close, I have a little time to go yet, but we'll be in pretty good shape by the wedding.
  • So far it's looking to be around $8k for us. We just have to put deposits down on the caterer and beverage provider and all our vendors will be booked :-)

My parents plan on contributing, not sure of the exact amount. FI and I have already put about $2k just in deposits and have about $3k in savings. Of course plan on putting portions of tax returns into savings too.

  • We have a budget of 20K, for under 100 people. It sounds crazy expensive, but weddings here are. The reception alone takes over almost half the budget. I'm currently about 2-3K under budget!!!
So far we have about 4K saved, as well as all deposits and we pay our photog montly.
My parents are contributing to the wedding. What exactly I have no clue as my dad believes we have PLENTY of time.
My mother is paying for the majority of my DIY supplies.
We've budgeted to pay for the entire thing ourselves so with the help, we will be under.

  • Our budget is $40k including our honeymoon.
We have $13k in savings right now & have paid $8200 in deposits so far.
My parents gave us $2k and my mom said she would also give me back what I paid for my dress. FI's stepdad gave us $2k as well.
We've been saving $1000 a month & are planning to up that to $1200 starting this month.
We usually each get about $2k back from our tax returns which we'll use & I get a nice-sized bonus in February, part of which we'll use towards the wedding & the rest will go in savings for a down payment.

We're hoping FI's stepdad gives us another $3k (he gave FI's brother & SIL $5k for their wedding a couple years ago) & if that happens we won't have to rely on my bonus at all which would be great!

  • We're at about $18K without my e-ring or honeymoon with my parents, his mom, and his dad contributing equal thirds for what we're not covering. They'll probably each giving around $5K.

BTW, I almost hyperventaliate when I think that this much money is being spent on something to do with me. I'm not used to be the center of attention.

  • Our Budget is 15K for a wedding for 120 ppl wedding, including honeymoon and his band. We have a combined Savings of about $34,000; ( we are Hoping not to touch unless we absolutely have too) We are making Monthly installments of 700.00 to the venue. A 3rd is already paid off. The venue inlcudes everything except for my diy projects, our attire, wp gifts and any additions we may want to add. My mom purchased my Dress and will contribute here and there. His parents arent contributing at all.  We are also hoping to purchase a home a few months leading up to the wedding. ** I would have been happy with something small with our nearest and dearest. FI instead wanted a little more. Yikes. Thinking of It makes me nervous :)

  • I'd prefer not to give the numbers but my parents contributed about a third of our budget then we're paying for just about the rest of it.  His mom is paying for the flowers which is nice and his Dad is paying for the rehearsal dinner.

    Posted by FLGatorGal88[/QUOTE]

Sadly, we're relying on our tax refunds to help us out...

Originally I was hoping to keep it at $6,000, but it wasn't gonna happen, so I bumped it up to $10,000, but after looking at finances a little closer with the cost of our house (since we were able to get a more clear number on what our monthly bills bill be like), it's running us about $7,500.

We were up to 220 guests - and I'm sure we would have ended up with more as we remembered people (he has an enourmous family). We had to cut our guest list down to 156 - ideally we'd like to cut more, but we are at the bare minimum without hurt feelings.

My parent's are contributing about $1,200. My mom said she will give us the majority of her tax refund, but I'm trying to avoid that as I know she could really use it for herself (newly divorced, starting over, etc).

The rest FI and I are funding, including RD (yay for cookouts! Actually I wouldn't have any other way regardless of budget).

  • We're budgeting $10,000 for 130 (maximum). This doesn't include the HM. We're doing Disneyland and my dad will be using travel points for the hotel & airfare and FILs will be getting the tickets, etc and doing the rehearsal dinner.
We are *super* behind on planning, and my dad also believes we have plenty of time and don't need to rush. My wedding is on a Sunday so that helps a little with availability. We have the venue, dress, catering, and flowers set so far. Tentatively that all equals about $6300, with some wiggle room for the flowers to go down. The woman doing the flowers wants to barter some of the cost for my mom to give her son piano lessons, so that will probably take us to about $6,000.
I'm definitely worried about going over budget. Thinking about all we still have left to do, photography mainly, and how much it will all cost is making me wonder if it's possible to get the rest in for $4,000. We're looking at a photog that's around $1,200 though, so if that's the case I think it's doable as long as we're frugal.
My dad wants to pay for most of the wedding, so what I'm contributing now will be paid back by him whenever .

  • Our budget is a tight 8500 and with all things, we may come in close to 7. My mother is purchasing my dress and my FMIL the alcohol for the reception. We have everything else ourselves without any help. We are doing the banquet hall buffet with DJ and I haggled with every freaking vendor to the point of them caving on prices but I had to. My fiance had a car accident that left him disabled and we are down to one income so we have to keep it close to it.  This includes everything but the honeymoon and, as crazy as it sounds if we are blessed with cash from our wedding guests we are applying that to my student loans so we're just being realistic. After the accident you realize you don't need all things that sparkle on your day, just each other. Oh, and being compulsive and over organized with price points of competitors was really helpful too. :)

  • Our budget is 15k. We have already paid deposit on my dress, venue, . I'm not even including income tax. I'm trying to do honeymoon under 3k but I keep getting laughed at by travel agents. We are footing the entire bill due to the fact no one in my family likes him. But I don't like half the people in mine. I am doing lots of DIY projects. I was hoping to get a professional florist but after going to two consultations and just getting one quote back over 4k, I might b doing that myself too
  • Oh yeah it's for 100 people
