So, I know this is super non-traditional and people will think it's tacky or that they are just in shock but we've been to like 8 stores for my sister to try on bridesmaid dresses and we found nothing we like. I mean nothing that was suitable for the wedding and that my sister would feel comfortable in. I'm only having her as a BM so maybe all the options were overwhelming but I'm pretty low key.
So, last night we are looking and there was an ivory short dress that has a similar neckline to mine and has a bit of a flare at the bottom (honestly, if I were a skinny thang it would make a great rehearsal dinner dress) and I told her to try it on. I was at a wedding where the wedding party was all in a white and the men in light gray and LOVED the look of it.
Well, the dress looked AMAZING on her. It was exactly the style I wanted, it had pockets for her "things" and the color is a bit darker than my very light, almost white ivory shoes. Since the dress is cut very 50s ish we're going to add a bit of gray netting as a peek-a-boo to downplay the white, simple jewlery like floating pearls or diamonds since her dress has a bit of bling along the waist and gray shoes.
I love love love the dress on her. Now, my grandmother and my fiances grandmother were in complete shock about me allowing her to wear white to my wedding. I'm not a bride who feels shown up and honestly if she feels amazing in her dress then it'll show in the pictures and throughout the day. My mom was stuck on the whole "Pippa wore white" and my gram was so "This isn't England" LOL. I would never wear white to another brides wedding but I could give a crap what people wear to mine as long as it isn't jeans LOL.
Anyway, it's dones but I can only imagine what people will say. The church and reception will be decked in mostly all white with hints of gray so I think it'll look beautiful My dress is simple with a lot of setailing and a double, very detailed mantilla veil - I think they'll know who the bride is.
