Friday Weddings?

Hi. I just wanted to hear from a few of you ladies on your opinion of Friday weddings. Our church is opening up new services on Saturday and Sunday afternoons in the fall, and we are both adamant on getting married there, as that is where we first met, and feel it would be really valuable to the both of us....
My mom is a little hesitant on having Friday weddings, as people would have hard times getting off work and such.

Just looking for some opinions! Thanks :)

Happy planning!

I'm having a Friday wedding and I've been to quite a few. I think Friday weddings can be just as much fun and you still get the weekend to recover. As for guests making it to a Friday wedding, if they love you and want to be there for your big day, they will come to the wedding =) Let them worry about the logistics of taking off work, travel, etc, they would want you to focus on your big day!! Obviously Saturday weddings are the most optimal, but Fridays can be a great alternative! Happy planning!

  • I think a Friday wedding would be easier if most of your guests were local. You might have a lower guest count if it is on a Friday and out of towners would have to take a day off of work to travel. Is there any way you could have the wedding on Saturday before or after your church's service?

Another thing to consider, if budget is an issue, is that Friday weddings are often much cheaper than Saturday weddings with regard to reception venues.

  • I am having a Friday wedding to save money. I am going to have an eving wedding with a reception right after words.
  • I don't necessarily have a problem with Friday weddings as long as they start a little later & also depending on where you live. I have 4 Friday weddings throughout the rest of this year. The first is next month and the ceremony starts at 4:15pm. It's in Philly. Traffic will be a nightmare so I have to leave work even earlier to make sure I'm there on time.

There's also the possibility that some people will have to miss the ceremony if getting off work or out of work early is an issue. So maybe keep that in mind also. I know Fridays are cheaper & you should definitely do what works for you & your FI, just try to remember to be considerate of your guests regarding time & whatnot.

I wouldn't have a problem with a Friday wedding if the ceremony started in the early-ish evening, like 6:30-7. Granted, I do finish work at noon on Friday so I'd have ample time to get ready, but if I finished at 5 like everyother day, I'm not sure I'd be able to wrangle my kids together, bring them to the sitter, have a light supper, get ready and get to the ceremony on time.

  • I don't have a problem with them, just as long as I get word ahead of time and local (somewhat) 1hour 1/2 maybe 2). A friend of mine asked me to be in her wedding next year and said she is looking to Friday since the recpetion hall she wants is booked for saturdays. I said that is fine since I now know the day and what day I have to take off/ leave early

  • I don't have an issue as long as they're local. If it's across the country or something, more than likely it'd be out of the question unless you were a close relative or friend.

  • I think you just have to be aware that if people need to travel to your wedding, they may not be able to come.  Overall, you may have a lower turn out for a Friday wedding, unless you have lots of locals.

  • My brother and sister in law had a Friday wedding. Since pretty much everyone was local, it worked out really well for them. I think it was a 5:30 wedding and everyone seemed to make it just fine.

  • Our ceremony is a Friday at 6pm...reception starting at 7pm.  I'm sending out save the dates in August so people can plan accordingly.
  • People are always looking for something to do on a Friday night. When's your date?
  • I agree with what a few have said...those who want to come, will come. I kind of struggled with this part too when we were selecting our date. We decided to go with the Thursday before Memorial Day weekend due to costs. I figure, everyone loves to have a great excuse to take a long weekend and I'm sure your guests will too!

We are having a friday wedding (May 24th 2013). We decided to do it for the cost. The ceremony will start at 6:30 with cocktail hour starting at 7 and dinner starting around 8. We have most of my FI's family coming from out of town but we consulted with them first before setting that as the date and everyone was on boar (and actually preferred it to saturday which surprised me). It is really important, especially if on a holiday weekend, to have it start later so everyone has ample time to get there. But you will need to have a formal dinner if it is later on especially on a friday since most people will come from work and not have eaten. We decided to make a whole weekend out of our wedding so saturday morning we will have brunch with all the out of towners who we don't see very often and plan some activities as well. I can't wait.
Good luck and just remember if done right Friday weddings are definitley a viable option!
