A co-worker of mine was complaining today to several people about contributing money and giving gifts to people for having babies and getting married. She does not want to have kids and does not want to get married. She kept going on and on about how she hates having to give knowing that she won't "get it back" or have a day all about her.  Also mentioning how unfair it is to give gifts to people for celebrating their happiness. It was so uncomfortable sitting right across from her I didn't even know what to say.

Wow, that is SUPER negative. Just tell her to "do what makes her happy." If she doesn't want to contribute, she has a choice, but to not be happy for people?? That spills B-I-T-T-E-R...

How rude of her! If she feels that strongly about it she shouldn't contribute but that doesn't mean she needs to complain about it!

It does remind me of that Sex and the City episode where Carrie has her expensive shoes stolen at a baby shower when they forced all the guests to remove their shoes at the door, and then, to get them back (after basically confronting the woman who hosted the shower and her taking no responsiblity), she sends an invitation saying she's marrying herself and she registered for the shoes....
Ok, it's not gonna be funny if you haven't seen the episode and are just going based off my poor explanation... but it does remind me of that episode...
I get the concept... TBH, I get frustrated around Christmas b/c our family (extended and immediate) does gifts for all the little kids... so I buy for my sister's 3 kids, and for 4 kids belonging to various cousins... so buying for 7 kids when the adults don't even exchange can get a little pricey... for me, I know it'll all come back around eventually... (not that that's the point, but I'm just saying)... I can see that it might be frustrating to shell out money for event after event when you know you're never gonna get the chance yourself...
Sorry, I'm babbling.... regardless of all of that, I do think it's tacky to be openly complaining about it... we all have those selfish moments where we think like that, but complaining to co-workers openly like that is unnecessary and a little immature...
