marriage license?

I got mine from washington county- our pastor gave us part of the form at the end of the night and mailed in another part. Do we receive something from the county/state saying that we're married or is what he gave me proof (I am trying to start the whole name change process)

You have to request the copy with the official seal from the  county. You can show up to pick it up, or you can mail them a letter with a self-addressed stamped envelope (6x9) saying that you are requesting the copy of your ML with the official seal. You can't change your name with the portion you got from the priest since it does not have the seal from the county. HTH!

To piggyback off of your question, does anyone know how long it takes to receive it from Allegheny County if you mail in the request? I'm waiting for mine to come in so I can do the name change thing and it feels like it's been forever (although I know it hasn't)

ours has a seal on it- but it says that we have to return it by 11/26- and it looks like there was a portion wehre the pastor took it off and mailed it in. I have the day off and I am trying to get things done- but i cant even call places because they are all closed

What the WashPA people told me was that I should call two weeks after the ceremony to make sure they received the part that the officiant mailed in, and then stop by to get the seal affixed to my copy. Then you can take that copy to SSA and DMV to get the name changes a-rollin'.

Greenet-- If the officiant handed you that portion after the ceremony, it is not possible that it has the official raised seal from the county. There is a printed seal, but that's not it. You have to take this portion back to the courthouse, or mail it with the SASE in order to get it officially done. I got my ML in Washington County too. This is the process they have there.

I was able to change my name at the DMV and the SS Office using only the copy from my priest. I still have yet to request an official copy from Allegheny County. I did all of my name changing here in Virginia though, so maybe they didn't realize I didn't have an "official" copy.
