Question about Memorial Day weekend wedding!

Hi!  So my wedding is 5/26/13, the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend.  Right now my reception time isn't officially set, but I'm thinking it will start at 6:00 PM and end at 11.  Does anybody think this is too late?  If it wasn't a holiday weeknd I would think it might be, but since most people have off on Monday, I'm hoping people don't think it's too late.
Please give me your opinion!

Re: Question about Memorial Day weekend wedding!

  • No, I don't think that's too late, especially on a holiday weekend. Our wedding is the Sunday before (5.19) and we plan on ending it around 10pm. Most of our family will leave long before but we know out friends will stay. Our reception is going to start at 5pm too.

  • I'm also getting married that sunday.. My wedding is going to be 5:30 to 10:30 so no I don't think that is to late
  • I"m also getting married that day and definitely don't think its too late.  Ours is starting at 4:30 which I thought was early, but we can't start it later unless we change where the cocktail hour is going to be.

I am the same Sunday also! My reception is starting at 6pm and ending at Midnight. The venue originally suggested having a 7pm cocktail hour start and ending at 1am so def not too late!
  • Ours is the Sunday before, the 19th. We plan to start the reception by 6pm with the ceremony starting at 5. I think 11 is fine. People will leave when they want to regardless. At our venue 11pm is when alcohol service stops and we have to be out by 12am. Generally only close friends and family will stay that long anyway.

  • I don't think that's too late at all.

  • Thank you for your responses!  I'm glad nobody thinks it's too late.  And it's true, if people need to leave or want to leave early, they will, and my closest family and friends will definitely stay.
  • Ours starts at 5 ends 11 bc of our venue but we could always continue the party on the beach!
  • Ours is 5/26 too, and the reason we picked that Sunday was because people could party late and wouldn't have to work the next day.
Our social hour is at 5, dinner at 6 or 6:30, and the DJ will play for 7 hours, so we're looking at a midnight end time.

  • We're thinking 5/25/13 or the 26th maybe. not sure yet! Do you think it's okay to have it during a holiday weekend? Will that negatively affect turnout?

</div><div>I just got married May 26, 2012 :-) So I'm Memorial Day weekend too! I'm over here because us May 2012  brides were talking about posting advice over here and I wondered if they did it yet.  Our reception was exactly that- 6 to midnight.  Even if it wasn't a holiday weekend I don't think that's too late.  If people are worried about work the next day, they can leave early, but we had most of our guests stay all the way up until security kicked them out at 12:30! Everyone will have the next day off and they. will. party!  Don't sweat it! Have a great time!

  • I think that timeframe is good.  I am getting married on 5/6, which is a Monday. (We are obviously taking a few days off of work.)  Our ceremony will be at 1:30, and our reception will go from 3-?????  We have many people coming from out of state and possibly out of the country, and we plan to spend some quality time with all of them around a bonfire after most of the reception is over.
