Catering Disaster.!

I wanted interactive stations at my reception. I thought my venue would do it but she said only buffet or plated dinners. But then said she'll see what she can work out. I wsnt too confident on it, so I went to find other caterers..got back some quotes and the cheapest was 10,600.!!! Not exactly the price I was looking for. I was told its expensive because more staff is needed for the stations. Hopefully my venue can work sumthng out or my dreams of an interactive station only buffet are out the window.

  • For sure more staff would be needed- not just for the stations-but the people in the back prepping everything. Like anyone working your wedding- they need to be compensated for it-hence the price hike. It would be pretty expensive no matter where you have your wedding. I'd stick with one or two stations, think that'd be a fair compromise- and won't be such a strain on your wallet :-)

A lot of venues offer 'stations' as part of their catering, for example- having somebody carving a specific cut of meat to order or choosing meat, veg & sauce for a stir fry.

  • How many people are you inviting? How many stations are you wanting to have... IMHO If that were me I would go with 2 interactive stations that are a must have and have those at the cocktail hr. As far the reception dinner I would just stick with the plated dinner. That's a lot of money to spend on just food... GL

  • FTR, our caterer doesn't offer a employee to attend the wedding, so we are hiring a server from a local staffing company for 3 hours at $25 per hour.

  • Well i dnt know my estimated number of guests anymore becuase me and FI recently decided to have an adult only 18 and over wedding. My guest list with the kids was around 150..now it should only be about 110. Two stations at cocktail hour is a good compromise. I just liked the idea of the stations cuz I have alot of picky eaters.!
