Memorial weekend 5/25/13

what are your thoughts on having a wedding on memorial weekend? yeah or nea?

Re: Memorial weekend 5/25/13

  • I don't honestly see a problem with it. Just understand that some guests may not be able to attend if they do a family thing that weekend. Some families travel that weekend and may already have plans. My advice- if that is what you would like to do, send out save the dates soon so that guests can plan their schedules. Hope that helps.

  • We're doing Sunday of that weekend.  We have a lot of out-of-town guests who will appreciate the extra day for travel.  Since we are doing a holiday weekend, we're probably going to host a BBQ type event at our house on that Sat so that everyone has more of an opportunity to visit.
We just did our Save the Dates to make sure that people have it on their calendars.
  • If a lot of guests will be flying to get there, prices could be higher. Otherwise, it would be nice for guests to have an extra day off of work/school.

  • We're having ours that Sunday. We also have alot of out of town guests so it gives them a long weekend to travel and to also have time to hang out with the family.  We would have chosen Saturday, but we got much better rates for Sunday.

  • Obviously my vote is yes, mine is ON Memorial Day. Is there something in particular you're worried about?
  • We're having a wedding that Saturday.  I wanted Friday but the price was the same, so we went with Saturday.  Some people that have family vacations may not be able to make it, but most of the people we've talked to haven't had a problem with it.

  • We are having our wedding the Sunday before Memorial Day. We dont have a lot of OOT guest so we knew that wouldnt be a big problem with our guest coming. I also kept in mind that mostly everyone has that next day off.

  • Well, let me get on the boat that is saying "yes." Our wedding is the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend and we chose that purposefully, as the wedding is about an hour and a half OOT and we wanted guests to have the option of staying overnight in the nearby B&Bs or even the villas on the property. We thought guests that want to stay get a nice mini-vacation and don't work the next day regardless, so there's no worry about having to take off work. If people want to go back home, they can obviously choose to do so, but we felt good knowing that people might stay through to the end of the reception because they don't need to worry about waking up for work the next day.

Originally, we had May 25th, Saturday. We actually changed it to the 26th when it unexpectedly became available for all the above reasons, plus we saved money this way. Ask your VIPs if this date is a problem for them--as long as it isn't, and as long as you go in with the realization/acceptance that some guests might have other plans for the holiday weekend, I think it is a perfectly fine wedding weekend. If that wasn't obvious from my rambling :)

  • My wedding is the friday May 24th of memorial day weekend. My FI's entire family besides his two sisters and his dad are OOT and they really wanted that monday to be able to get back home (and they all live in about 6 different states). My FI's little sister is also graduating around that time so that sunday she is having a graduation party so it works out that the family can just make one big trip

  • I booked for the 24th without realizing it was Memorial Day weekend.  We live in Vegas and are having our wedding here, so I would have preferred it be a different day so that people who work on the Strip or guests from out of town would have less trouble.  It's hard to get holiday weekends off when you work on the Strip, and obviously, airfare goes up.

However, for people who have a lot of guests that work the usual M-F 9-5, booking Memorial Weekend would probably be a very good idea. So my vote was for maybe.

  • I'd run the date by your nearest and dearest, and go from there :-)

I'll be a May 25th bride, my family and friends have no issue with the date.

  • Ours is on Saturday, May 25th.

We have a handful of OOT, some an hour or two away, many local. We are only sending out STD's because of this (otherwise we wouldn't have); we realize some may not be able to come, but at the same time, it might help with those coming as they'll have an extra day off.

  • That is when our wedding is, too. As long as you get your save the dates out in time, it shouldn't be too big of a problem!

  • My wedding is that Friday the 24th
