Re: Anyone been to Jamaica?

  • I've been to Negril, Ocho Rios, and Montego Bay. Ocho Rios has this really GREAT waterfall called Dunn's River Falls. It's a gorgeous waterfall and you can climb up. OMG its so fun. Google it. Lol. Montego Bay has a Dolphin Cove at a resort called Half Moon where you can swim with the dolphins and its fun, too. Negril has alot to do. We ziplined, did a jamaican rum tour, they have a dolphin cove too and a great waterpark. To me, Negril is the best place for couples. They have the prettiest beaches out of the three and the most all inclusive. We stayed at Sandals Negril and it was great. Make sure you look up all the attractions in each place though because Sandals Negril is about an hour and 15 minute ride to Dunns River Falls. If you're all for the ride then go for it. I took the ride and it was worth it to see the sites of Jamaica. I love all three places, but I would say Negril for the honeymoon. Look up Sandals Negril, its gorgeous.!

  • I stayed in Ocho Rios when I was in college for a Circle K convention.  It was a ton of fun.  I recommend Dunns River Falls for sure.  But, beware of the awful roads....I've never felt so car sick as I did riding the bus from the Montego Bay airport to Ocho Rios.

I would love to go back sometime when I can actually drink and not have to be tied to convention events.
  • I went to Jamaica a few years ago for my Best Friend's destination wedding.  We stayed in Negril (Riu).

I really enjoyed Jamaica, was very nice and the resort had fun things to do each day as well as some off the resort trips such as ziplining, Dunn's River Falls, Rick's Cafe (cliff diving was amazing!!), etc.  The off-site activities were not included, but definitely were nice for a change of scenery, since going off the resort was not really recommended.

We were warned excessively by the travel agent not to take anything handed to you, as once you took possession it was assumed you were purchasing it.

The only negative I remember was that we went swimming and some people were stung by jellyfish (including the BRIDE before the wedidng!) and the sand fleas were pretty pesky, so we stayed at the pool mostly.

  • I went about 3 years ago with a bunch of teacher friends. We stayed, I think, at the Riu Palace resort. The trip was amazing and we came back home SO relaxed. We were really happy with where we chose to stay. The staff was friendly and accommodating, the resort itself was beautiful, rooms were clean, food and drinks were good.
The only thing we got slightly annoyed with, were the vendors who would walk up and down the beach trying to sell things or make money by singing to you. The vendors selling stuff would leave you alone for the most part, but the guys singing would walk right up to you and just start playing music. We learned to pretend we were asleep, or at least look it when they came by.
Rick's Cafe and a restaurant called The Rockhouse were the only place we visited off the resort, which were both awesome.
