May 11th flower issues!

Just had my consult with forist this weekend.  I have my heart set on real flowers but because of Mother's Day flower costs will be double.  So the cost for a single rose will be $7.  Are any of you ladies having this issue?

Re: May 11th flower issues!

  • I don't have that issue at all. I would check other florists in your area.
  • Yes!  Prices were crazy!  I'm using a local market/grocery store.  It substantially cut down on costs compared to florists.

I was worried about this too, but it didn't seem to be an issue with our florist. You may be better off going with someone who does flowers independently, rather than from an established shop. Just make sure you see their actual work. Depending on what you want, you could order something already made through costco or other club store. You may also be able to order through an online flower shop.

  • My wedding is May 18 and our florist told me that the flower prices will still be a little higher than usual due to the holiday.  We managed this by choosing different kinds of flowers for our centerpieces that I still love.  We didn't change my bouquet though because I am too in love with it.

  • My florist only does one wedding on that weekend, so I was lucky enough to be able to book her back in June. She did say roses would cost more, but my BMs don't have roses.

That was essentially what I was finding too.  Because of the holiday weekend, they limited how many weddings they would do.  So they want to make the most money they can, so I was finding that florists in my area were giving me a min. that I had to spend to use them.  I found their min. to be crazy expensive IMO ($10k).  That's why I went with the market who's only charging me 1800 in comparison.

  • Yes 10,000 as a MINIMUM!!!  I almost fell off my chair when hearing this from vendor after vendor.  Between that and hearing that many florists were already booked (and this was in July of last year mind you), I gave up and went to the market local to my venue.

The only other one that would give me an estimate was for 5,000 (which I thought was rediculous since I was providing the centerpiece vases and really only needed bouquets, corsages, bouts, and small centerpieces (not the big tall things).  And I was using flowers in season and not roses (popular for Mother's Day).

BTW - The market that I'm using are doing my flowers for 1,800.
  • We found that any florist with a store front did not do weddings on Mothers Day weekend.  So our florist choices were more limited.  We still found a great florist, but had to only look at florists that specifically did events (no store front).  Prices weren't higher tho
