May 2013 Weddings

colors

Hi everyone! I'm new to this board, but I usually check out the Minneapolis-St Paul board. I'm Caitlin and my wedding date is 5/18/13. My question is, can both summer and spring colors be appropriate for May weddings? Not together, of course. :-) I'm having my wedding at a Spanish restaurant and event center and want to stick with Spanish colors so it doesn't clash too much with the decor. I'm thinking orange and yellow or red and yellow, but want to put a cooler color in there such as a lighter green or a turquoise/light blue. Any thoughts? Colors really shouldn't be this stressful...

Re: colors

  • Just go with whatever colors you like.  I think the orange and yellow would be pretty.  Especially with a lighter green (you can always incorporate more flowerless plants into the floral arrangements then).  We're using purple, green, and ivory for ours.

  • We are using a variety of different colors (Eggplant, Light Purple, a softer blue and a buttery yellow). I got the inspiration from a bouquet I saw. I think many colors can go together if you do it right. So I saw go with what you want. I agree with PP that the orange and yellow would look pretty. I think the lighter green may be a better choice as well just because of flowers going together. You should look up centerpieces and bouquets that have these colors to see if you like them.

  • I honestly don't know what summer or spring colors would be.  Pick whatever colors you want- it doesn't have to be season specific! Happy planning!

  • Don't worry about your colors going with the 'season'. I think it's an incredibly outdated rule. Go with what you like.

    Welcome to the board :-)

  • We are getting married at the beginning of May and we are using Red, Black, Purple, and a little Blue. Most of those are Halloween colors but yeah lol. If you like the colors you will be using then be happy.
  • Thanks, everyone! I'm feeling better about this. And the more I search, the more I do keep coming back to the same few colors--orange, yellow, pink, red, green--or some variation of those. That might be it!

My colors are burnt orange and pistachio light green, sort of pastel. I love the colors together and I can use the entire orange spectrum for decor/flowers and it will still look good. I'm doing pistachio as the main color, and orange as accents. I like to stick with two colors, but that's just me, I'm sure yellow would also be nice

  • Purple is our main color (mainly eggplant and true purple colors) and the accent color is a cornflower/cerulean blue (light and dark variations). Planning on using splashes of yellow and white.

I saw a swatch the other day with orange and red with turquoise accents. It was really pretty!

  • Ooh I love the idea of using turquoise. Maybe you could do red, yellow and turquoise. Very appropriate for the venue and pretty. I agree with the other ladies, I wouldn't stress too much about being "season specific". The only thing that's helpful if it's in season at your wedding is your flowers. :)
