Wedding Day Vent

So our venue gave us $1,000 off to get married on a Friday. So for us, big bonus. Wedding on Friday. Some of FI's family members are coming from OOT. About a 3hr drive. We already got the confirmation from some that they would definitely come, and some said they can't. Okayy cool. I understand the whole getting off of work and having to drive to make it there by 6:30. I get that. But when its people that live here in this vicintity that call us or msg us and ask why are we having our wedding on a Friday and are being rude about it, thats when I get mad. Like I literally had this convo:
-Why yall getting married on a Friday?
-Discount.
-Yall already spending all this money, yall couldnt pay extra to get married on a Saturday??
-No, we couldn't are you gonna give us the extra 1k, cuz if you are then we'll get married on Saturday.
-I just think you're inconviencing your guests by making them take off of work.
-Look, if you don't want to come you don't have to. The people that really wanna be there will be there. Guests will know the date 6months in advance so they can plan accordingly. Sounds like to me you're just making excuses, so I can just cross you off the list right now.
-I was just saying.
-Well so am I.

Really.?? FI and I aren't asking anybody to take off. Our wedding isn't until 6:30 and we're totally prepared to start at 7 if we have to. I'm sure if you really wanna be there you will make it. I don't have time to stress over this cause forreal the only people that realy need to be there are me, FI, and Pastor. Everybody else can stay the hell home. It's just irritating to hear it back to back. Like I just wanna put on the Save The Dates in bold FRIDAY if you don't like it don't come. I don't know about them, but I know alot of people that look for reasons to get off of work. I'm helping you out.

You shouldn't have to explain your wedding date.  If they can't come, then they can't come.  Honestly, you should stop responding to people when they ask you that stuff.  Just say "we chose the date for many reasons.  Isn't the weather beautiful today?"

Exactly. "It's our date because it's what we wanted."

People just gotta have something to complain about, don't take it personally!

I am appalled at someone even bringing this to your attention! What if that day was significant to you? It shouldn't matter. Oh, I would be livid if someone said something to me. And if I had a close relationship with that person, I might go off the handle and say something like, " you know what. We have no problem saving an additional $175 per plate for anyone who feels too inconvenienced to share in our special day".

Don't explain yourself to anyone...if they don't like it then they don't have to come. The people who really care and want to support you will be there regardless.

I agree with PP's 100%. Your friends/family, or whoever keeps bringing it up has some balls... is it really any of their business? Like you said, if they can't make it, they can't make it... no one is going to cry over it.

Exactly. You don't have to explain anything to anybody, and you are right in that if they really want to be there- they'll make it work.

We are also getting married on a Friday at 6PM.  No one has asked us "why this or why that?"  We sent out our STDs at the end of August so people can make arrangements with work, schedules, etc.  We do understand those who won't be able to make it.  Those that want to be apart of this will make it!

I am going through the same thing and my respose is simply I really hope you can make it to the ceremony but it'll be fun to hang with you that night at the reception. You're done at 5 right? LOL. i don't even care, people are crazy.
