Re: Photography questions

  • It may just be personal preference, but I wanted a CD of all the photos that I had copyrights to so that I could print all the pictures I wanted. So the price of a CD was huge for me. Also, having two people taking pictures was important so knowing how many photographers I was getting for the price was important.I think also knowing when they expect to get pictures back to you or if they will be editted are important. I'm trying to avoid questions about their shooting style, because you obviously liked their style enough to pick them :)
  • I agree with PP about knowing if you get the rights to your pics and them on a CD or DVD, unless they state it on their website. It's a pretty standard thing here for photographers to include that in their packages, so definitely steer clear if they don't.

FI and I didn't really ask our photographer too many questions mostly because I had done so much online research and narrowed it down to one and she was the only one we met with. It's definitely important to take into consideration how you get along with them and if they put you at ease. Your photos won't turn out well if you don't like your photog, lol.

  • So this is what I have that I know they include:

    • 8-9 hours of coverage
    • Two Photographers
    • Unlimited Photography
    • Engagement Session (on location or in studio) with 2, 8x10 prints
    • Proofing for 6 months in an online password protected gallery
    • Printing Copyrights to all High Resolution Images on CD
    • A Keepsake Album featuring 40 to 50 images
    • 16 x 20 Mounted Portrait of choice from your wedding day

I am hoping we click with them well as their style is both of what we like

  • We didn't ask our photography a lot of questions because we had done a lot of research previously. And we saw his website we kind of just knew we wanted to work with him and then we spoke with him and we were sold. So I'm sorry I don't really have any good advice :(

  • I made sure that I had full copyrights of the photos afterward on a cd. I only have 1 photographer so I made sure there was a way for them to have photos of me and the girls getting ready and some of the guys before the ceremony.

The biggest thing I would ask about is time frame, if you would get charged for overages or anything like that. I have unlimited for the whole day, they will show up when I want and leave when I want which is really nice.

  • I met with at least 5 photographers an spoke on phone with at least another 3 .... First suggestion write down your questions in the beginning I was kind of shy I guess and completely lost my train of thought lol second you definitely want to click. Make sure you know there turnaround time on the pix even DVD high resolution. One company told me they don't release high res till 6 months after the wedding. Find out if you meet photographer beforehand or someone assigned closer to wedding read the contract in its entirety. I did an I'm so glad I picked up on the fact I needed to request my guy to take pix.
  • Thanks Mel for that info. Im writing stuff down that you ladies are mentioning :)

  • I agree with everything said.

I asked my photog on what type of editing they do. I didn't want to be made like something I'm not so I only wanted red eye, blemish correction, etc. If you want B&W, spephia, etc, it would be a good thing to ask, my photos on my USB come in color & B&W.

  • You've gotten lots of great suggestions from other posters are brides. I'll answer you as a wedding photographer.

1.) Does my package include a CD?
2.) If it does, are the files high resolution or low resolution?
3.) does the CD include a reprint consent form or are they for computer viewing only?
4.) How long does it take to receive my files back? (an average time is 2-3 weeks per hour booked for most in-demand photographers)
5.) How many photographers will be covering my event for this price?
6.) How many images am i guaranteed? (Ie: I promise 60 images/hour minimum)
7.)Does this package include an album? Prints? gift CDs?
8.) Will you need a meal provided during the event? (a lot of brides overlook this and forget that they are hiring someone for 8-10 hours, and not feeding them. Feed those poor people! They work better when their bellies are full ;))
9.) If your are booking a package that includes X-hours, am I able to pay extra to keep you longer if needed?
10.) If you're booking per-hour, am I able to add an hour before you leave if things are still hopping?

Jsut a few ideas :) Have fun!
