Work + Wedding stress

Hey Ladies,
I havn't posted in a while, because I was on vacation (which was wonderful...we went out to northern Cali for a week).  The downer was the 2nd to last day I found out about big changes at my job which most likely mean I won't have one in the very near future.  They might keep me on until my project shuts down in October, but they havn't really told us their plans yet.  So, that has obviously been pretty stressful...with my job goes my health insurance, so my FI and I have been deciding what to do about that.  I thought it might be a good excuse to scrap the biggish wedding we are planning and just run off to the courthouse with siblings parents and grandparents about 6 months earlier then planned....he and all my friends I have talked to thinks that's a bad idea...when I floated it to my sister she didn't react well either, so I have a feeling that's gonna be DOA.

After a lot of talks, we think that if I do lose my job we will just go get legally married whenever that happens (I might use that as my engagement shoot session as well) so we aren't stuck paying crazy high COBRA and then still have the celebration/ceremony as planned.  So, after a few weeks break I think i have to get back to planning, along with applying to jobs, which is no fun.  Anyway just thought I'd give an update! In other fun,  I'm seriously looking forward to the northeast heat wave breaking later this week!!

  • That sucks about your job :-( It's smart of you guys to prepare for this instead of scrambling for the money. No matter what, you've gotta do what's right for you guys and if other people don't like it- well, it's not their decision to make.

Best of luck to guys and whatever decision you make :-)

  • That's terrible.  I'm very sorry.  I also agree that it's good that you are making these decisions now.  If you choose to have a celebration later, there's nothing wrong with that.  My parents got married with only their parents in attendance and then my mother's parents hosted a small party about 5 months later.  I think that's really nice.

We just had some similar, but not nearly as bad news yesterday.  My FI had just gotten a new job at his same company that was suppose to be a big step up for him as a client relations person.  That client (dum bank of america), broke their contract with my FI's company.  Luckily, they hadn't filled his old position yet, so they gave him back his old job.

Good luck!  Sending some good thoughts your way!

Thanks ladies for the support! We don't really know what is going on still, but at least FI is supportive, so i'm not too freeked out by things. So, we'll see.  Right now, he does want to keep the date and keep planning, so I think we do that.  Worst comes to worst we will just lose a few deposits i guess.
