Just a thought

I know you are excited about the secret santa, but have any of you thought about sending a gift to a soldier instead of to each other? The only reason I bring this up is because, my family and I are sending out care packages to my brother (stationed in Iraq) and his unit for the holidays. So if any one wants to contribute something to a solider, just let me know. cobrien1976 at yahoo dot com and I can send you ideas that soldiers like. Thanks.

That's a good idea but I'm doing a PJ project for the women's shelter in Pittsburgh. that's where my extra gifts are goign this year. They are in desperate need of NEW women's and kids PJs. So my neighbor and I are taking PJ's down on December first.

That is a great idea, but it'd be great if people could do this in addition to the Secret Santa - not instead of. Jenn worked hard to figure out the Secret Santa idea and I'd like to honor that. I'd like to make a contribution though. I'll send you an email.

We participate in sending gifts to the troops through my DH's school, such a good cause.I'll shoot you an e-mail because I'd love to send something to your brother's unit too!

DH works for the Navy. They do a collection before Christmas to send to the sailors. We donate to that, so although they are not land soldiers, they are on deployment (underway) too during the holidays. My DH also likes to buy toys, so we usually end up donating a few hundred dollars worth of toys to toys for tots. Last year we spent more on them than on our families. We save a little each month all year for this. It puts the biggest smile on DHs face, but I'm sure the smile on the kids' faces are even bigger.

I do care packages as well through anysoldier.com.  I've been doing that for years. But I don't send at holidays due to the backlog and I want the soldiers' families to be able to get their stuff through, of course :)
