Thoughts on late-night reception food??

A few of the recent weddings we've been to have served pizza or sandwiches around 10 p.m. to help people soak up some of their alcohol and refuel the party.  I think it's an awesome idea.

We got our revised estimate from our venue to include pizzas.  The total is about $300, which seems pretty insignificant to me in the grand scheme of things.  But, my mom is really questioning it.  I pretty much told her it's what we want and we'll pay for it, but was curious what other people's thoughts are on it.

Do you plan on having a late-night snack of some kind?

Re: Thoughts on late-night reception food??

  • We can not afford to have this catered, but I figured we would buy bread or buns, lunch meat, cheese and some condiments.
I would LOVE to do something hot, but this is what we can afford!

    Go for it!

  • We are toying with the idea of latenight pizza. Our venue orders from Green Mill and that way is cheaper than doing pizza through our caterer and we don't have to decide on that until about a week before. We may play it by ear on the RSVP's and go from there.

  • We are not doing a late night snack I feel like it would be a waste.  We aren't planning on staying at the reception really late. We are planning on being on our way to the hotel no later than 10:30. Another reason is we can not fit this in our budget at all... if you can squeeze it in yours then I say go for it!!!

  • I don't think we're adding this on at the actual wedding but we plan to hit up the bar at the hotel and order some snacks for everyone there afterwards.

  • We're doing a late night snack.  The past few weddings I've been to, by the time I got back to the hotel, I was super hungry again!  We're doing mini lobster rolls (since we're getting married on the ocean) served in little take out boxes in case people want to take them back home with them.

  • Our reception will be ending around 10, so we won't need any late-night food.  We will have a cookie bar available though in case people get hungry throughout the night.  And probably some other cracker type foods.

I like to nibble, so there will be things to nibble on all day.

  • We're doing an after party at a little pub across the street from our venue, where we plan on ordering a few trays of their food -- chicken wings, chips and salsa, pretzels, etc. We figured this will allow those that want to leave can head out, and those that want to keep partying (with us) are welcome to do so with a live band.

  • Its a good idea if the reception ends late ;) ours will end at 10.
My parents are hosting a late lunch a day after the wedding for the closest family and friends (its a family tradition and this is were we open the presents)

Like others have said, our reception ends at 10 so we're not doing anything for late night food. We've talked about going out afterwards to a local bar or something, but I'm not quite sure if we'll even be up for that!
But, I say go for it if you can do it!

  • Don't go overboard with late night food.  I've been to many weddings that had something like this.... sandwiches, cookies, cheese and crackers, etc.  I noticed with the more fun weddings the food seemed to go to waste.  Everyone was too busy dancing to notice or care about the late food.  If you decided to go this route, don't get too much or anything too expensive!  For some weddings, we all went out to a bar afterwards.
