Re: QOTD 3/5

  • Non religious. FI is catholic and I was raised catholic but do not practice. This was part of our compromises. he wanted the big to do then there would be no church or church type ceremony

  • Non-religious, spiritual. But the day before our wedding we might have a ceremony at the church my parents got married in to make them happy.

  • Semi-religious. We are both Catholic, I was raised Catholic and he wasn't. So we are compromising and doing the 30 minute ceremony without communion and extra long readings.

We don't really talk about it much. They're not the best Catholics anyway, I couldn't tell you the last time they went to church. When I told my mom that I don't believe anything the church teaches, her response was well you beiieve in god at least right? I was like yea not so much. I think it surprised her but she's fine with it. I think my grandmom is a little sad I'm not getting married in the Catholic church.

  • My FI's dad is a minister so he will be marrying us in a religious ceremony...we're both from non-denominational Christian backgrounds.

    Ohhhh boy- religion...

My mother is Jewish, my father is Catholic.  I was raised mostly Jewish, but I consider it my ethnic background, not really my religion.  My parents were often asked how I was going to be raised religion wise, and they responded that I could be whatever I wanted, even a Buddhist- and now I'm marrying a Hindu guy!

We're incorporating some Hindu elements into our ceremony, but otherwise it will be non-religious.  Oi, can you imagine blending all three of those religions! LOL

<div>My parents are the same way.. they don't go to church every Sunday. They only go for the holidays. They were really upset when I told them what I believe. After we talked it over, they finally came to. But to make them happy, and my grandparents happy, we are going to have 2 ceremonies. The first one very small at the church my parents got married in (only to make them happy) and then our actual wedding day the following day, with the ceremony we want. </div>

  • Our will be semi religious as I do attend temple once a month (try for at least once a month) and Fi doesn't attend a church ... I am Messianic Jew & he is Christian he's been to my temple and has met my rabbi he was the one to officially ask rabbi to marry us after our first official meet as engaged couple. So this week we are actually starting out 1st of 12 sessions of marriage counseling kind of excited for it too. His mom is interested in seeing some of the traditional Jewish ceremonies too which makes me feel real good, while it won't be completely Jewish we are keeping some of the traditions & I've told Fi anything he wants to add we would work it in.
  • Entirely non-religious.  My family is Jewish, but not religious, and my fiancee's family is Catholic but he is an athiest.  We're still breaking a glass at the end of the ceremony, since that'smore of a Jewish cultural thing than a religious thing... and we like breaking things :)

  • we're having a religious ceremony..both of us were raised Catholic so are having a Catholic ceremony

  • Melb that would be quite a ceremony bring in aspects of all 3 religions. Glad to read your parents are so open minded. That is awesome.

  • It'll be spiritual is the best way for me to explain it. We'll have a prayer at most. Maybe a small reading that we like. But it will be outdoors and we haven't decided on minister/officiant.
