May 2013 Weddings

vent. grrrr..

My new least favorite thing to hear is "May is an iffy month for weather"
This is WISCONSIN!!! ALL months are iffy!!  We had 70 degree weather in March this year a week after having negative temeratures. July can be brutally hot or thunderstorming all day.. There is no perfect time. If I had a winter wedding I would be worried we wouldn't have any snow.. No matter what the season this state is full of surprises.

GAH!

Okay... Got it out :D

Re: vent. grrrr..

  • Same in New England- I picked May because it rains slightly less than April and I wouldn't want to get married in the summer because it's so hot.  The saying here is "If you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes- it'll change."

  • I feel your pain. I grew up in PA and it was the same way.
    Just nod and smile. LOL

  • Ohio is the same. We had high temps around end of feb beginning of march then had a few inches of snow, a little bit of cooler temps (60's) and now we have been in the 100's for the past two weeks. So there was never going to be a time where I decided on the month based on weather because it's so unpredicatable.

  •   I wouldn't worry about it. Pretty much anywhere you live is iffy at one time or another. You can't tell mother nature it's your wedding day and not to screw it up. Do like everyone else does, pray and hope for the best. Be happy it will be your big day.
  • Exactly, this year it was extremely hot come end of for March and the beginning of April & then cooled off for the end of April but got really hot again in May.

  • I've been hearing that a lot too with a MN wedding.  In fact, my FMIL suggested changing the date because there was crappy weather around Memorial Day this year.  We have a back-up plan for our outdoor ceremony, so I'm not too concerned about it.
  • LOL! Minnesota's the same way, that's why we deliberately chose to do everything inside :-P

  • I've been dealing with the same thing.  I've had more than one person tell me that it could still snow in May (I live in Buffalo).  then again, it could also be 80 degrees and sunny.
But my reception venue has a patio that can be enclosed if need be and I've made alternate plans for indoor photos if necessary.

I just wish people would mind their own business.  I know they are just trying to be helpful, but still...
