Reception Venue Issues

So our reception space is at a cute little boutique, cabin feel hotel. This past week the hotel announced that they were acquired by a big chain hotel and that they are redecorating the hotel and banquet spaces to the corporate standard. We are really upset about this! We chose the space we did because we wanted a cabin-up north reception space. We did not want a corporate hotel banquet room. We're worried that the prices will go up for food (they bought the restaurant connected to the hotel that does the catering, as well) and not to mention our invites had a pine tree and a moose on them, well that won't even make sense anymore with the stupid change.

I emailed the wedding coordinator to figure out what the deal is. Honestly at this point, I want the deposit back and look for something else. I want the cute hotel we booked with, not a big chain!

Ugh, I am so irritated! Seriously, less than 6 months out and this happens!? They're lucky we haven't had our invites printed yet!

Re: Reception Venue Issues

  • Do you know for sure what the remodel entails? I would be upset too, but there might not be anything to worry about. I work for a hotel chain and even though many things are the same from hotel to hotel, they do have different decor based on the area they are in. I bet they won't take away the cabin feel, just update it a little. I hope that is the case!

  • I hope the coordinator gets back to you soon! That is so frustrating!!! Hopefully they will give you the deposit back if they are making changes that make it different from the type of venue that you wanted! Keep us updated!

  • I hope in the very least they'll honor the prices in your original contract. Once the remodel is done I'd for sure go take a look at the place again.

If you don't mind me asking, what hotel is it?

This. I would definitely go over the contract to make sure your prices are secure.<div>I hope the remodel goes well and it can still work with your theme!</div>

  • SSaltzman87, it's the wildwood lodge in Lake Elmo. It is now a Holiday Inn and Suites. The wedding coordinator hasn't emailed me back yet. DF and I were thinking about just going there and talk to the hotel manager and figure out what's going to happen. I'm just bummed.
