Budgetzilla

I feel like I can't justify any extras because of this wedding. For example, FI will say let's go to a movie and I'll say we have to save money for the wedding! Or no we can't eat at a real restaurant, only the dollar menu from McDonald's because we have to save! Is anyone else as nutty as I am? I'm annoying my FI but don't know how to stop, all I see is $$$$$$$$!!

Re: Budgetzilla

  • Ahh I am the same exact way! Down to a T. So I'm really no help here. lol I try telling myself that we still have X amount of time to save, and tax time is right before the wedding, so that will help, but seriously, we can't do much either without me saying "we have to save for the wedding" or "we could have used that for the wedding".

  • Im laughing because im the EXACT same way.. I have cut back on literallly everything but FI is still BAU..

  • I am like this (somewhat). I sacrifice things I would normally do for myself and put that towards the wedding instead. For example FI and I each have $200 allowance money that we can spend on whatever we want. My most recent use of this money was for the vistaprinting, my veil I ordered on etsy and the aisle runner. Etc.  FI? Not so much. It makes him feel guilty when he spends money on other things. He sees me going without so that I can put stuff towards this wedding so it makes him feel bad.

  • I haven't been TOO bad with this (yet). We have a set amount that we transfer over to our savings account/wedding fund each month and for now whatever's left is "spendable".

Although, FI plays in a roller hockey league which is kind of expensive especially when you factor in gas and tolls (it's about 35 minutes from home) and he tried to tell me he was going to do soccer there as well but I vetoed that immediately haha I don't think he was too happy but we have to make SOME sacrifices!

  • I am the exact same way! It's really hard because we used to go out a lot. now we are pinching every penny, since we are paying for everything for the wedding ourselves.

  • We haven't done too much cutting back, but every time a big purchase idea comes up, my FI throws at me "well, you wanted to get married, so we can't have nice things till after the wedding".  A lot of times he's kidding, but is still trying to make  a point.  Examples: you can't trade in your car yet, you wanted to get married; we could buy a better bed, but you wanted to get married;  we could go on a trip/vacation, but you wanted to get married.....etc.
  • We've really cut back on the eating out, the movies, shopping, those types of things.  We've been so busy between wedding planning and work, that we don't really have time to do those things right now anyway!

I'm the same way too. It's been really hard to get FI to cut back on things because he likes to go out to eat a lot and buy 'fun' stuff. I'm sure I sound like a broken record when I say, do you want to get ____ or do you want to get married?
