Love/Hate Pinterest

I love Pinterest. I do. Spending hours there is never a problem, but I'm wondering if my fellow brides out there also hate it to an extent?

Example:
While browsing decor and accessories on Etsy, I saw some cute ideas that I wanted to include in the wedding. I bought a double sided Here Comes the Bride sign for my "ring bearer" banner boy? to carry down the aisle and to flip over for the recessional to display And They Lived Happily Ever After. I had never seen that idea before and thought it was so ME!

Now...seeing the same idea on pinterest and seeing it be used in the last two weddings I have been to, has affected how I think about it. I don't want to be the bride that got all of her ideas from pinterest and does something so trendy. I'm now thinking maybe I should just have a classic ring bearer now with the pillow?

What do you think? Do you feel the same way?

I totally agree! There are a ton of awesome ideas but I feel like everybody is going to start using them and everybody will say , that is from Pinterest! I really want to use that pick a seat, not a side idea but I feel just like you do!

We are using this one- but I saw a better wording that isnt too popular yet.
It was something like-
"Friends of the bride,
Friends of the groom:
Sit together, there is plenty of room!"

Pretty sure we will be using this. Your ideas have to come from somewhere, and unless they are your original ideas someone will remark of where they saw that. No matter what you do. Pick and choose what you want and do it. People will talk- it's what they do.

I agree with turtles, people are always going to have something to say no matter what you choose.  If you find something on pinterest you like but don't want to seem like you're copying pinterest, change the wording or the color or style.

I've had the plan of using the wine and letters unity box instead of the unity candles since before we even got engaged. It seemed so unique that I could even find anyone to make the box for us do we had plans to make our own.... now I see it on pinterest all the time however I won't pin it because us I've of the "surprise"elements for our ceremony.. and now Etsy Sellers make tons of boxes

I don't care enough about what other people think to be worried about what they'll say. As PP mentioned, there will always be something said by someone against your wedding, and it will more than likely be due to the extreme jealousy they have.

Plus, I would assume that most of the people who would say, "I saw that on Pinterest" are looking for wedding ideas because they're getting married (or dreaming of getting married) and no one on my list is in that "mode". So I don't think they'll see anything too familiar.

Most of my pins are because it "speaks to me" and I think its something I'd want to incorporate into my wedding, not because I care to be that original or the start of a new trend. Im sure most of the ideas Im in love with now will be overused by the time my wedding comes along. I usually end up "tweaking" what I find on there anyway.

I never thought about that!  My problem with pinterest is that it makes me want to spend more money all the time!

LOL funny story though, last night my mom and FI and I were discussing the flowers for the wedding and I got so excited that I blurted out "our wedding is going to be pretty enough for pinterest!" They all burst out laughing.

I know I, my friends and family don't go to weddings much- so who knows who would even notice that you got some ideas off Pinterest, KWIM? I do understand your concern though :-)

I wouldn't worry about it... Unfortunately, it's very difficult to be totally original. Someone, somewhere has probably done it. It'd be a shame for you to forgo something you were super excited about just because someone else has already done it.

Honestly, I'm planning to do the sign/banner as well (have had this in my head for about 6 months now) since I'm going to have 3 ringbearers (my sister's son is 7 y/o and FI's sister's twin boys are 4 y/o)... so I'm going to have the twins carry the sign down together to give them something to do... I think it's a very cute idea.
