Officiant fee

Our officiant is an old friend of FI and he told us he will not be charging us anything to do our ceremony. We plan on comping his hotel room, but we also want to make a donation to his youth organization to thank him.

My question is what is your officiant costing you? We're always looking for ways to cut costs, but I definitely don't want to insult him by not giving a large enough donation.

Thanks for your input!

Re: Officiant fee

  • We're getting married in a Catholic Church and the suggested donation was $100 but will probably give more.

  • Fee vary greatly depending on the type of officiant.  JPs are the cheapest usually.  I'm using a celebrant which is $600.  Different religions have different types of fees for their relgious leaders to officiate.  My FSIL is paying over $1000 for a Hindu priest in fees and donations.

  • $125 for our officiant.
  • Our officiant is a friend of the family who is a pastor. He's done all the weddings and funerals in the family. He told us there isn't a suggested doantion, he's honored to do it. FI said we're gonna give him $250.

  • We're paying $300 for ours, and that's considered middle of the road here.

  • $475 for our officiant.

  • Our officiant is my old professor for my women's studies classes. She said she wants to do it as a gift to us for our wedding. I will probably not pay her anything but get her a really nice gift. I know there are some things she wants but it too cheap to buy herself so I will probably get her something alittle on the expensive side since she feels really weird about accepting money from us

  • Ours was 650 and that included church, officiant and organist. Ours didn't have a breakdown so I'm not sure how much just the officiant was.

  • Ours doesn't charge but he does have a "love offering" we're donating 300 if we can do more I'd like to do 500 as I've been attending my temple since I was 11.
  • Mine was free too, so Im no help. But I think $150 - $300 would be a reasonable donation.

  • I think our pastor doesn't charge and I'm pretty sure he wouldn't take cash if I tried to give it to him. I think we'll give a donation to the church and then get him and his wife a gift card for a nice restaurant, probably all totaled in the $200-300 range.

  • Our Pastor's fee is $500 which includes church and four pre-marital counseling sessions (counseling is mandatory)
  • Ours is 300 for the pastor and premarital counseling and whatnot. They also add on an extra 600 to "rent' the auditorium area of the church (nondenomination church style), and use of the lights and sound system. I think that's a lot so we will probably only throw in an extra 100 donation.

  • Our officiant, who is a retired county judge, is $250.
