Destination to Local: Need opinions!

Hello!

For some back story: we were planning on a destination beach wedding for late summer of 2013 and have decided this past week to have our wedding local (Pittsburgh area) instead. Therefore, for the past few years of our engagemnt, I have not looked at any venues or services in this area!

I would to love to hear some other Brides suggestions on ceremony/reception venues in the Pittsburgh area, as well as bakeries, etc.

We have sent our information to gather prices from some venues, but we are in LOVE with Springwood in Verona, PA. It is beautiful and does not need decorations or any frills. Another pro is that we can bring our own alcohol and the $132 price includes floral centerpieces, bartenders, wait staff, etc (we only need to pay for bridal party florals, photographer, DJ, alcohol, cake, and invites).

So maybe it's more so that we're concered if we're getting what we will be paying for! Morning Glory Inn is also another location that stuck out.

Thank you for any thoughts or suggestions!

I think 132 is steep if it doesn't include alcohol or cake. But maybe I'm just cheap. Morning Glory Inn doesn't have a fantastic rep here. Girls in the past have had trouble with the owner. However, obviously people are still using them since they're still in business. Page our mod erbear in a new post and see if she can PM you the vendor beware list. I would also check out the reviews on Wedding Wire.

  • We toured Springwood, it is beautiful but their prices are, in my opinion, uncalled for. Ha. Morning Glory Inn never got back to my request for info and I hear they can only accommodate smaller wedding sizes. How many are you inviting?

I have been in love with Succop Conservancy in Butler and that's where we are getting married. Reasonable prices, indoor/outdoor areas, 2 ponds, lots of room, promote conservation and I think it's even more beautiful than Springwood but I could be biased haha. Have you looked at Greystone Fields? We toured there as well, absolutely gorgeous, and less than Springwood.

I agree w/the above posters, check out the preferred vendors list, Wedding Wire reviews, and if you scroll down a bit you can search the boards for past posts about venues.

Have you looked into Lingrow Farms? Out of my budget but I hear wonderful things about it.

Good luck and let us know!!
  • Thanks ladies! And sorry for posting back so late.

We are defiantly trying to not break the bank, but it seems so hard to find something that seems worth it! *sigh*

Since I've posted I did visit the Morning Glory Inn. It was stunning and honestly has everything we could want, but on the downside it is small and does not include the price of food, bartender, and alcohol (which the last one is fine with me, because I'd rather buy it myself).

I can also see where people may find the gentleman there rude, but honestly I think it's all about how we perceive things anyways! He is to the point and pretty much tells you how it is, which I can respect.
