Bridesmaids all in different colors

Since my FH and I couldn't really decide on 2 or 3 colors we liked for our wedding, we are going with 6 colors.  It will either look awesome, or awful.  Haven't quite decided yet.

I am going bridesmaid dress shopping with all 6 girls tomorrow night.  This will be the first time most of them will meet my FSIL, as she lives out of state.  Most of the others have met at least once, except for my one niece.

Our color palette is pastels.  I found an ad in a magazine (which i can't seem to find online) that had 5 girls in knee-length pastels, yellow, blue, purple, orange, pink standing next to each other and I thought it looked cool.  We are going to add in a lime green, which I think will be ok.  Then, each girl gets to pick which color she wants.  No one can double up.  The groomsman they get paired with will wear the same color.  One our bestmen thought that sounded good, until I let him know that he'd probably end up in pink.  Now he's not too excited about that.  Cool

I'm not going to be real picky about the style.  I just know that I want something close to tea-length and similar fabrics, but they can pick whether they want straps or not.  The shop we are going to carries the Allure line, and I know there's a few in there that I like.

Hopefully all goes well, everyone gets the color they want, and it doesn't cost them more than $150 each.  May be wishful thinking.

First off, I would be concerned about the lime. Because lime is such a bright color, it could stick out more than the others, so I would recommend "assigning" that to your MOH. If any one of them is going to be "pronounced" I guess it would be most fitting to be your MOH. You mentioned they can pick what color they want, but that they cannot duplicate colors. That is contradictory in terms. It may produce some hard feelings. If I wanted to wear yellow, for example, but it was already chosen and I dont like how I look in other colors, I may have hard feelings. It sounds like you might need to just assign colors.

Ive got my fingers crossed for you. Hopefully, when you see them all trying on dresses together you'll feel better about your decision with the colors and either love it and leave it or dislike it and change it at that time. Good luck!

  • As long as everyone is willing to work together and have patience you will be just fine! I have seen this done and it looks really cool!
Stay in the same dress line and fabric and you should be golden. As long as everyone gets along :)
    Have fun!

  • I agree about assigning colors.. My big fear would be having one of the girls being stuck with a color they don't want because it was the only color left... Kind of like being the last kid picked to be on the team. You don't want anyone feeling they are less important than another person. I also agree to not do lime green, but to do pastel green. We are doing Alfred Angelo pistachio. It is more of a pastel. I don't know if allure has a similar color or not though.

  • Do you happen to have pictures of the colors you're thinking of?

  • I have a picture in a magazine ad, but haven't been able to find it online.  Mostly because every time I think of it, I'm at work and don't have the magazine with me.  But, I'll bring it along to the dress shop tonight.
