Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh

Fvck.

I just got a call from the lady at our reception hall. The caterer we had chosen (and paid a deposit to) has declared bankruptcy.

FML.

oh, man...that sucks!!  Was it a big deposit?? Any chance you could get it back??

Did you guys maybe have other choices that you liked as well??

You deserve an extra glass of wine (or beer) tonight.  That really blows.

Deposit was $500, so it could be a lot worse. Legally, we have no ground to stand on, but I'm hoping they'll give us something. I contacted the other two caterers, so we'll have to see.

And I have to work night shift tonight. FML again.

Oh no... that really sucks, panther. I'm so sorry! Hopefully you'll be able to get the deposit back, but even if not, good luck with finding another caterer! Keep us posted.

That is terrible! That's just rude if they don't give you your money back. The deposit was to reserve their service and they are the one's backing out so you really should get your money back.
Would you venue allow outside caterers or do you have a set list you have to go from?
    Good luck

Oh no. Sorry to hear this Panther! I would obv. say see if you can get the deposit back but the chances of the vendor returning $ would be faint, but see what you can do!  If the other two caterers are not available will they let you get a "non recommended" caterer due to the circumstance? Good luck!

If I remember bankruptcy law correctly from when I did my CPA, you are still entitled to the money you gave them for a deposit. However, there is probably a long list of other people who they are in debt to that will get paid first..... Usually a heirarchy of debtors basically.

That really, really sucks. So sorry Panther...

So it looks like both of the other caterers are available, so that's great. I have a price list from one and am waiting for one from the other. Unless the other caterer is dramatically different in price, we're going to have talk money. With not getting this deposit back, we can't afford to spend what we were spending before :/

That's so horrible, Panther!  I hope something works out with one of the other caterers :(
