I need help ladies

I am getting married and having wedding reception at the same venue. I got a steal on the venue. My fianc has been married twice before so he doesn't get all of this planning. I have never been married. I wanted to have a sit down played reception however he wants buffet. I have been to weddings and I absolutely hated waiting in a long line to get my food. Also my dad is a chef and although I never went to culinary school I can throw down. I love all types of food. My question is how do I incorporate all my favorite foods from different countries into something nice that still goes with my romantic night at beach them

Re: I need help ladies

  • I'd first look at options for your catering and what your venue will allow. Also in some states the food you serve absolutely has to be from a licensed caterer, not from your kitchen. Depending on those options, most caterers will make custom dishes for you, but may have extra fees depending on the ingredients.

A lot of brides (some on the boards being chefs and pastry chefs) will advise against making your own food simply because of all the extra stress and time going into it. I went to culinary school as well (didn't graduate, but was in for a while) and never would I ever consider making food for my own wedding, I would go nuts lol.

  • I know right lol. My venue doesn't care as long as licensed caterer. Do u think it would be weird to have different food stations from different countries

Not at all, I like the idea. You'd have to work out the numbers, but for what you're wanting- you'll be paying A LOT. Your venue would most likely charge you a lot in fees for the extra stations because of the staff needed and extra prep.

  • Ok thanks
  • Luckily when and where my cousin got married at she was able to bring in her own caterer and did what they call grazing stations. she did a pasta, mexican, american, and greek station. It was soooo good. She said with the different foods it did cost her alot because some meats like gyro meat cost more than chicken. So take that into consideration. But other than that I think its a great idea and agree with other pp..Check with your venue .

  • And to add, you should be able to ask your venue coordinator to arrange it so only 1 or 2 tables are invited to start feasting at a time. This will help avoid long lines and waits.

  • Definitely. The stations are a great compromise! We are keeping it simple and only having three: Burrito, Pasta and a traditional carving station with mashed potatoes and salad bar.
I would love to do more of an appitizer type, but with over 200 people my budget is already strecthed,...
