Please give advice

So y'all know how I was looking for a new dress?  I found one on a preowned website.  It's perfect.  It's my size, and already has a bustle and had the neckline altered to a sweetheart.  And comes with two veils.  For $600.  Plus shipping.

I got an e-mail from the girl selling it today saying another girl had e-mailed her about it.  We'd previously talked and she knew I was selling mine in order to pay for the new one.  So now I have to decide whether to buy the dress now (I haven't sold my old one yet) or to wait and hope the other girl doesn't decide to buy it.

I found another dress of the exact same style, but without the veils and the sweetheart neckline for $500 plus shipping.  I don't know what to do.

I have enough money right now to get the dress that I originally fell in love with, but my dress hasn't sold yet, and I don't know when it will.  If I don't buy the dress the other girl may, and I may end up buying the other dress which would have to be taken in at the bust and I'd still have to buy a veil.

This is the first one....

And the one I just found...

  • The only thing that worries me is that I haven't sold my dress yet.  Granted it's only been for sale 2 weeks, but that's quite a large chunk of money to be waiting on.  It makes me a little nervous.

  • thats true... I guess for me when I see something I want I get it lol. but just think you have just about a year to sell your other dress im sure it will sell =)  what dress is it

  • It's a David's Bridal Oleg Cassini CWG377.  It's a size 8, ivory, never even been tried on.  I bought it for $950 plus tax and am trying to get $750 for it.  I'd take $700 to be honest, just to get rid of it.

  • I'm confused - both those links look like the exact same dress to me. Am I missing something?

  • They are the same dress, just being sold at different prices with different levels of alterations.  The first one is the one I want and have to decide quickly if I want to buy it or not.  The second is another option if I don't buy the 1st although it may come out more expensive in the long run due to alterations and veils.

  • Have you tried this dress on or one similar to it? IMHO I dont think I would want to purchase a dress without trying it on or without seeing it in person. How much does this dress retail new?

<div>This is what I was wondering also. Depending on the designer, the sizing will be different. Just something to think about if you haven't tried this dress on. Or at the very least have your measurements taken & then match them up to the designer's sizing chart before you buy. I'd be nervous about buying online without having tried it first. </div>

  • It is a very pretty dress. If you have tried it on and have been measured, which is actually your size? The dresses you link to are two different sizes and may affect the amount of altering you need and your overall cost. If you buy it now and your other dress for some reason never sells, will you be able to afford having both around? If not, you should wait to see if it sells. If you can afford it (you would just rather not have to) and you definitely won't wear the other one and you definitely want this one, then go for it.

  • The first one is altered to my size.  My exact size.  I just couldn't wear heels with it which I wasn't planning to do anyway since my feet are weird and don't do well with heels.  And I have tried on another similar allure dress, the only difference was the dress I tried on was cut the same (mermaid), but had no ruching or bunching at the bottom, it was just a plain dress with a bow at the top and buttons on the back.  So sizewise Iknow it'd fit.  Especially since I just measured again last night.

The second one is too big bust-wise and may be too long too.

I definitely won't wear the dress I have at home.  I kind of actually showed it to my FI already so it's not an option at all.

If this is the case then I say just buy it. Clearly you have your heart and mind set on it so why wait until its too late. Like PP said you have a year to sell the other one. GL!

  • If your heart's set on the dress, I'd go for it. You just don't know when you'll find it again, KWIM?

    This.

Also have you tried to sell it in a local paper around your area? Where else do you have it posted for sale?

  • I have it posted on 4 different sites currently.  I had a girl e-mail me about it last night and she's going to let me know wednesday after she tries the dress on in her local David's Bridal.  I went today and tried on 3 dresses, all with something similar to the dress I want.  Every single dress had parts that I loved, that were also part of the dress online.  So I'm just going to buy it.  I mean I compared every dress I tried on to it, so there's not much of a chance of me finding anything else I'll get as excited about.

  • As for listing, my dress is listed on my local craigslist, TK classifieds, recycledbride.com, preownedweddingdresses.com, and oncewed.  So not 4, but close enough.

  • I know I'm a bit late but i say you should go for it & buy it. =)
