Worried About Curls Staying Throughout Reception

Hi ladies,

I wanted to get your opinions on a hairstyle for me. I will be wearing a halter style dress and I had originally thought I wanted to do some sort of curly up-do. However, I work out a lot so my hair is usually up in a ponytail or a bun in my everyday life and I wanted to look different and special on my wedding day. For those of you who have had your hair trials, or are already married, or who just may know from other experiences, how long do curls typically stay in if left down? Taking dancing into consideration I'm wondering whether or not they would stay throughout the reception.

Re: Worried About Curls Staying Throughout Reception

  • It totally depends on your hair.  My hair is naturally curly so if I strighten it and then put in big curls, they usually stay until I wash my hair again.  A cousin has hair that is so stick straight, even if she sprays a can of hairspray on it, it will fall flat in a half hour.

  • I have naturally stick straight hair, if I get curls professionally done they last about 3-5 hours before falling depending on humidity but to get it to last that long my hair has to have a ton of product in it and be crunchy.

Are you absolutely sure you want it down? If you aren't used to it you might find it hot and in the way. I always go out intending to wear my hair down but once I start dancing it's up n a few minutes. You could also go half up half down.

  • ok semi extreme option  - comb gellitan thru your hair (yes the kind that makes jelly - jello aisle at the grocery) mix like the directions comb thru hair, blow & curl or preferred set in curlers and dry will stay for several days (doesn't smell) or till you wash.  my sister & I both used this for theatrical shows for years  stands up to dancing and humidity.

I would however try some serious mousse first.  Fat hair works great!
  • The time it will last definitely depends on the hair, but also how the hair is curled.

Are you getting your hair done professionally or having someone curl it for you?

I'd definitely recommend curling the hair with a hot curling iron, as hot as your hair cna stand without damage. Rolling the hair up in smooth plastic rollers (not velco) that won't snag the hair and let the curls cool completely and leave your hair rolled up as long as possible while you get ready.

When I do this, my curls can last all day and my hair is very long and coarse (hard to curl).

  • when you get your hair done dont wash it the day of ! I know it's gonna be hard but if its a little dirty it will hold MUCH better. also sometimes if you have too much product in your hair it will be weighed down. I am trying to find the name of the product I use whenever I do updo's, I know it works wonders, hold curls and doesn't make them crunchy. I will post later when I go back to work and get the name for you.
