Ceremony music

What songs are you ladies using? We are having a string quartet and I want classic, traditional songs for the processional, but I definitely want to avoid "Here Comes the Bride".

I'd love to hear what you are doing.

Thanks! :)

We hired a quartet and I am trying to avoid "here comes the bride" as well!!  I am thinking of the bridal party walking in to "cannon in d" and I will either walk in to "trumpet voluntary" (if a string quartet can even play that?) or "jesu, joy of man's desiring".

Actually now that I think about it, bridal party will walk in to Cannon in d, I will walk in to jesu, then after ceremoney we will walk out to trumpet voluntary.  I am sure I will change my mind a million times before May though lol

I want traditional music too.  I think I want Canon in D for myself, and an instrument version of "All you need is love" for the recessional, but for the before ceremony/seating of honored guests/BMs I'd like some classical wedding music!  Hopefully this will be a good thread of suggestions, since most wedding music suggestions I always see are contemporary songs.

We are having a guitarist playing at our ceremony. The songs we are using are:

Parents/Grandparents Being Seated - Somewhere Over the Rainbow
WP Processional - Maybe I'm Amazed by Paul McCartney
Bride Processional - Edelweiss (Sound of Music Soundtrack)
Recessional - Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles

We hired a string duo (guitar/violin) for the pre-ceremony thru cocktail hour too.

I want them to just play random stuff for the pre-ceremony, but when our family is seated (and my FI and my children walk in) it will be "I can't wait" by Runner Runner.

For when I walk in, "Marry Me" by Train.

Recessional will be "Sign Sealed Delivered" by Stevie Wonder.

The ceremony music is one of the things I'm most excited about!! I played the viola for 5 years, so it was really important to me to have live string music. I hired a trio that includes the flute, violin, and cello.

Most of the music for my ceremony will be traditional with two exceptions. I'm gong to ask them to play "All I ask of you" from Phantom of the Opera as the last song before the ceremony starts. The second exception is the song I'm walking down to (see further down).

    What I've decided so far:
    Ave Maria - Mothers
Cannon in D - Bridal Party
Unity Candle will also be something traditional.
Not sure about the recessional yet.

As for my walk down the aisle, I had someone arrange music for two of my favorite classical tracks from the "Little Women" movie made in the early 90s. She combined Spring (which is ony 58 beautiful seconds) and Harvest time. This is a small tribute to my late grandmother since she is the main person that introduced me to a lot of books, musicals, movies based on books (including Little Women), etc. .

Here is a youtube video of a girl that combined parts of the same two tracks; mine is longer than this though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QZdhit78Zg

I think I'm one of the few not doing traditional music.  We are using Vitamin String Quartet covers of the following songs:

Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley (moms, BP entrance)

Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol (my walk down the aisle)

I am going the "non-traditional but not contemporary" route and having all romantic period composers (my favorite musical era) for the ceremony music. We also have a string quartet

Parents walking in: saint seans' "the swan"

Processional: rachmoninoff's "rhapsody on a theme of paganini

when I walk down: debussy's "girl with the flaxen hair" (my dad said this song reminds him of me every time he hears it, and debussy is my favorite composer, so this was an obvious choice for me ;))

Recessional: Bach's (not romantic period by I love him too) "cello suite no. 1"

We're having a string trio (2 violins & chello) for our ceremony. We're planning:
WP entrance: Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring
    My entrance: Canon in D
Tree Planting Ceremony: The Way I Am - Ingrid Michaelson
Recessional: All You Need is Love

They're also playing the cocktail hour which will be all contemporary covers (think VSQ). I'm very excited for this!

</div><div>Love this! I was a piano major in college, so I love Rachmaninoff and Debussy. :-) Bach also gets a favorable nod. ;-) :-) </div><div>
</div><div>I'm also excited to see some discussion about classical music for the ceremony! PP are right, most of the music discussions are about current music (which is fine, but not the most helpful if you're having traditional music). TK actually has a decent list for classical music, though I don't remember exactly how to find it....</div><div>
</div><div>I still need to work on my music, but here's what I have so far. My church has a large organ, and one of my favorite profs will be playing for our wedding, so most of our music is organ. However, the first 2 pieces are for strings, so they could perhaps work for a trio/quartet.</div><div>
</div><div>Moms/Grandmothers: Water Music: Suite 1 Air (MOB used it for her wedding)</div><div>
</div><div>Bride: "Jupiter" from Holst's "The Planets" (So excited about this piece! Always been one of my favs...:-) There's a GORGEOUS melody about 3 min. in....<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nz0b4STz1lo" rel="nofollow">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nz0b4STz1lo</a></div><div>
</div><div>Recessional: Tocatta from 5th Symphony, Widor (fireworks for organ)</div><div>
</div><div>If a piano is possible, Grieg's "Wedding Day at Troldhaugen" is nice. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eMFuTpchns&feature=related" rel="nofollow">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eMFuTpchns&feature=related</a></div><div>

Havent been on here in SO long - music is on my list of 'stressful things I am putting off'

Great to see all your ideas!! I wanted non traditional but when I said to FI we need to sort music he said 'why you will walk down to the wedding march wont you??' I think we are going to need to compromise on this. Maybe canon in D.
