May 2012 Weddings

I just did the worst thing ever...

I checked the weather!  I had been waiting and waiting to look at the 10 day forecast...so I pulled up weather.com and of course, for May 26th (our wedding date) it says 50% chance of rain :(

I have always dreamed of getting married outside.  And our venue has the most beautiful big oak tree to get married under.

Please send positive vibes my way (and I will return the favor!!) that May 26th is clear!  I know that I still have 9 days and that the weather could change.....I am hoping this is the case!

Also - what happens day of if it still says 50% chance of rain?  Our ceremony doesn't start until 6:30 but they are starting set up at 3pm.  Do we make a decision by 3pm? Or risk it and have them set up outside....and risk everything getting soaked?!

I have not stressed at all throughout this whole process and now here I am 9 days out stress stress stress!

Any vibes, advice, thoughts, comments, etc. is appreciated ladies!! And I am sending positive weather vibes to all the brides getting married this weekend :)

First, take a deep breath. I started checking the weather at 10 days too. All I saw was rain, and sun at the end of the week. But, this being New England, that rain could still show up! We lucked out and it didn't rain. It was sunny, but windy.

Do you have a coordinator? If you do, I would ask them their opinion. I had a friend that got married outside, under some oak trees. It sprinkled rain. They had umbrellas and no one seemed to care. I would just be prepared, and if it does rain, have fun with it during pictures. Photogs love cloudy skies anyway. If they are setting up at 3, I would def make the decision by then. But, you have 9 days, so just relax and go with it.

I'm in the same boat. We're getting married the same day and it's 60% chance of showers right now. I just keep reminding myself that they have no idea what the weather will be this far out. Sending good weather knottie vibes to you... and I'll take some in return!  :)

  • same boat here too...but i have checked the extended for the last week and it changes every single day...rain, then 83 and sunny, then chance or rain and 68 etc.
Im not going to worry to much until like 2 days before when i have to.

I'm in the same boat!! Mine is a 40% chance of rain/thunderstorms :(

I love our venue (golf course) and outside is so beautiful. The reception space is floor to ceiling windows and I loved that because it will be basically like the pretty outside but without the elements, but I at the very least really want some pictures outside. Also, for our first look there is this cute little bridge I really want to do it on.

Also, I think I am going to make a firm decision 2 days before the ceremony so we can have a smooth rehearsal/runthrough and we will all know exactly where to be and what to do. If it's still 40% at that point, we are going to move it inside and pray that it clears up long enough to take a few pictures!

Fingers crossed for May 26th weather!

  • Is your back up plan getting a tent or moving the ceremony inside? I would not trust the weather... until the day before... The weather was all over the place for our wedding day sun, rain, sun, rain, thunderstorms. The forecast said partly cloudy for our wedding day with 10% chance of rain... it rained.

  • Dont stress. accuweather and  every other weather website I could find said 84% chance of rain. It was the best weather possible. not too hot, not too cold and sunny. Couldnt have bought a better day! And worst case scenario...rain is great luck :)

  • I've had the same fears all day! I just checked the weather and it's rainy. But luckily in the south we get short showers and my wedding coordinator said thy could hold off until 45 minutes before the start time to set up. I'm just gonna try and forget about it bc even though I've always dreamed of an outdoor ceremony, it's more about me and my best friend getting married. Where and how we do it is just a detail.
  • Thank you all! Deep breath taken and positive weather vibes sent to everyone!  We are meeting with the coordinator at the venue today to finalize everything and I will talk to her about the weather.  I agree we will need to make a deicision by three.  I guess worst case scenario...it rains.  Our back up plan is to have the wedding inside.  They have a great space, the only downfall is that we would lose our cocktail hour space....and cocktail hour would just be in the main ballroom.  But it really wouldn't be too bad.  Everything will still be beautiful!  Still, lets hope it doesnt rain bc I really really really want to get married outside...and have pictures outside!  Ok, I promise not to check the weather again until the thursday before :)
