Catering!

I found a BBQ company that only charges $10.75 a person!  I've been worried about doing our own food, but this would be about the same cost. :)  This buffet would include 2 meat choices and 3 sides, and I'm sure we could still supplement any other food we want (especially for the cocktail hour) ourselves.  They also have a dual "All Occasions Catering" company that does more traditional wedding food...for about the same price!  I'm like literally jumping up and down right now.  I'm leaning towards BBQ (our wedding IS Memorial Day weekend, after all!), what do you think?  It's an evening wedding (i.e. we're feeding people during dinner time), so would BBQ be weird?

Re: Catering!

  • That sounds DELICIOUS!! I would say if you're wedding is more casual then go for it! You make a good point that it's Memorial Day weekend so it's fitting. And I think it's worth it just to take the weight off your shoulders of doing the food yourself. Just keep in mind an option for vegetarian guests.

  • We found a BBQ company that could cater our wedding for around the same price as we were planning on fixing our own food.  So obviously I don't think its weird for a night wedding to have a bbq, haha.

The only reasons after speaking to my mom that we decided against it were, the mess factor.  I don't know how people will be dressed, we were afraid people might get their 'nice' clothes dirty.  Especially the kids.  Especially my kids, haha...I know we're always hugging and loving on eachother and I personally was deathly afraid of bbq covered hand prints on my dress.  My 2nd issue was my MOH, she's allergic to tomatoes, so basically half the menu they had she couldn't eat.

I'm not sure if you're having kids at the wedding, or hands on they are if there will be kids, so this may not be an issue.  And I've never met anyone else allergic to tomatoes, so I doubt that will be a problem either ;)

I say go for it!  I looked at both menus, I like the other catering company menu too, sounds good :)

  • Thanks, ladies!  I was just worried about things seeming "tacky", but I frickin' love BBQ!
  • I think BBQ is fine as long as it fits your wedding. KWIM? Like, I think BBQ would be out of place in a formal banquet hall or similar formal venue. But, if you have a less formal feel to your wedding, then I think that's a great idea!

We are having kids, but it seems like the menu options they have don't neccessarily require a hands-on experience, so I'm not too worried.  I think I'll put a bunch of wet-naps somewhere, though...just in case, lol

I'm also thinking of wearing my lab coat while I eat so there's no BBQ sauce on my dress, ha!
  • Oh my gosh!  If you eat with your lab coat on, take a pic!  That will be classic!
