How is everyone's planning?!?!?

I haven't been on in a while - FI and I were out of a job at the begining of August and 1 week later I started my new job so things have been crazy on my end!!

How is everyone's planning going?  We have an appointment on the 22nd to go cake tasting at Bethel Bakery, which I am super excited about because who doesn't love free cake!  Our groomswoman is working on our wedding website (which looks amazing) and our STD's so I can send those out before the holidays.  Other than that I am waiting until after I graduate in early October before I start my craft-a-palooza for the wedding!

I want to make a nice photobook of our e-session.  Anyone have an recommendations?  I heard WalMart does them and a compamy called Mixbook.

Happy Labor Day!!

Re: How is everyone's planning?!?!?

  • Congratulations on your new job and your upcoming graduation! I am just starting the wedding planning process and am already disappointed and exhausted.  I have not found the perfect venue place on our small budget.  With that being said, have you tried Targets photo print shop?  I think I have a person vendetta against Walmart...maybe it is the long lines!
  • Wedding planning isn't going anywhere at the moment.  Aside from venue, dj, photographer and officiant I don't have anything else.  I'm starting to feel the heat as I have my last semester of grad school starting on Tuesday.  So I know that's going to take up a ton of time along with working.  I feel like I need to get a jump on the game so I don't fall behind or let it stress me out but I don't know where to start.  Maybe I should look into cake appts, that seems like a not so stressfull thing.  Any advice?

  • Congrats on the new job and the wedding planning! I am in panic mode now.. i'm a little more than a month away for mine!! AAAHHH!!
My FI and I did our guestbook on one of those websites and we used snapfish I think. or shutterfly, I don't remember, but they're both awesome. After you use them once, you get coupons all the time for discounts on pictures/photobooks (mine was actually free, i just had to pay for shipping thanks to one of those coupons)/thank you cards, etc.
@lpowers- use your checklist on the website- it'll break things down for you a bit more. get your dress soon if your dress is less than a year out. it can take up to six months to come in, plus alterations. cake is easy- and delicious to try :) What part of pgh are you?
  • Congrats on the new job! I love reading about everyone's planning so far. I can't wait to start seeing some of them come together. @CMA - I plan on using shutterfly for our photo guest book. I've used them before and their books are awesome. @Lpowers - I made a spreadsheet with everything we had to book. Then I made a columns with our budget, actual price, deposit paid, what we owe, when it's due, and the persons contact info. It makes it sooo easy to see everything all together and in 1 place. Everything is going SO well so far. We both are so happy that we chose a short engagement. Been engaged for about 6 weeks and a little less than 5 months to go! We have our venue, church, Priest, caterer (includes our cake), limo, shuttle transportation, my dress and veil, photographer, DJ, hotel block, honeymoon, and tea light candles with jars for center pieces all bought or with a deposit down. And invitations are being designed by a friend. The only thing left is flowers and we'll do those by the end of this month.
  • Thanks everyone!!  Good luck witrh all of your planning!!!

@cma212 - I have not looked into Target, I will check them out next weekend!  I know what you are going through.  We are on a tight budget as we knew we were going to be transitioning with our jobs and neither one of us wanted to put anything on credit.  I looked long and hard and while all my dream locations were way out of budget I am very excited with our selections.  We are having our ceremony at Kennywood Park and our recpetion at Fairview Sunset Room in Bridgeville.  Yes, I could have dipped severely into my savings and put things on credit cards or took out a loan or two to have my dream wedding.  But in the end the thing that matters most is me and my fiance commiting ourselves infront of our friends and family!!  Stick with it, you will find something!  I searched for the best vendors at a price I could afford, if you want anymore recommendations let me know!

@lpowers1118 - you sound like me!!  My motto is get it off the list!  I knew the end of September was going to be stressful with finals and November-Decemeber is holiday time so who wants to do wedding stuff?  You should do you cake tasting, I think it will be fun and not stressful.  We were going to go with Signature Desserts because of their wedding packages, but I looked online at their photo album and I wasn't very impressed.  So I broke down and decided to go with Bethel Bakery.  I know they are going to be a little bit more, but their cake is phenominal and their photo album trumps Signature Desserts.  Bertrams in McMurray has really good cake, but I have not looked at their photo album.   Good luck!!  I am taking my MOH with me and my fiance to cake tasting to help me with the girly decisions, lol.

jennyd321 - a month - oh man!  I can only imagine what I will be like a month away!!  I never thought of Shutterfly!  i made a photoshare site there and I get coupons, I will have to check them out!  Thanks!!

The board has been sort of quiet lately- glad to hear about everyone's planning so far!!

Cake tasting: Bethel was yummy (and oh so expensive) but one of the vendors that surprised us was Potomac Bakery in Dormont. VERY good prices and the cake was really good, the only issue we has was they start making the cake Tuesday which was earlier than Cakes by Tammy- and we got her down in price so we went with her.

Photobook for e-session: BLURB! No joke, Blurb is amazing quality. I made family cookbooks with them last year and they look professional so I'm working with Blurb again for our photobook. Pricier than Walmart/Target/Shutterfly but you can always find promo codes online for them too. Totally worth it though I think because you download their free book making software and can design it from scratch or get help with a template.

We just decided on our transportation vendor so that wraps up all of the vendors! Whew! We also decided on our wedding invites and the wording so we'll be sending those to print soon, that way we get them back with plenty of time for addressing since the busy holidays are right before our wedding. Also all of my BMs ordered their dresses and I even ordered one of the new Watters lace BM dresses for my rehearsal dress. Excited! Next up: flower girl dresses and Groom/Groomsmen :)

  • This board has been quiet lately so it is so good to hear where everyone is in their planning!! Our planning is going really well so far. The only two big things we still need are the florist and our transportation. I think I narrowed down the transportation and I am going to meet with florists this month.

We had our engagement pictures done yesterday! Thank goodness the rain held out, but man was it hot! We will get the proofs in a few weeks and I can't wait!

Keep the updates coming ladies- I like knowing where everyone is-so exciting!

Our planning is going pretty well.  We've only got about 6.5 weeks to go, so we've got all the main stuff done.

We ordered m&m's last night for our favors.  We are doing personalized m&m's in our wedding colors.  We still need bags, ribbon, and thank you tags though!

I also need to make an appointment to get my wedding dress altered.  Luckily there isn't a lot that needs done, but I will probably go within the next week or so.

We also need to go to Donati's soon to decide on flowers.  We booked them back in March or April, but need to go back to make decisions on flower type and colors.

We are planning our honeymoon now too.  We have the flight and our Florence hotel.  Now we are looking at Rome hotels and possible tours to take in Italy.

I definately recommend using Shutterfly.  I used their guest book option and used our engagement photos, and it turned out great!
