Not having a honeymoon

Is anyone else not having a "real" honeymoon? FI and I looked into finding a beach within driving distance and trying to find a cheap place to stay for at least a couple of days but our parents told us they can't give us any money for a honeymoon and we're both graduating college right before the wedding and still don't have jobs secured so everything is so up in the air right now that we can't really spend the time/money on a honeymoon.

Is anyone else not having one? What are you doing instead? I was fine with this before but I'm starting to get sad about it since I've gotten more stressed about the wedding recently.

Re: Not having a honeymoon

  • I know a lot of couples who have opted instead for an anniversary trip. I think the both of you will have a great time relaxing together for a few days. My parents went camping for their honeymoon. My mom has great stories to tell from it.

    I hope you cheer up!

  • FI and I aren't having a Honeymoon right away. Last summer we already agreed to go on my familys annual vacation THIS summer in August because it might be the last one that everyone can be at, so it was important that we be there. Neither of us have enough vacation time at work to take that week plus another week for a Honeymoon. Plus the fact that honeymoons are crazy expensive and it just wasn't in the budget right now. We plan on doing something next year for our first anniversary, and have another whole year to save for it.  I kind of still want to go somewhere for a few days after the wedding though so I have been looking into cabins in the Poconos or smallish B&B's that are all within driving distance. I know how you feel about really wanting one, but you can still relax and have a good time with your FI and make it romantic.

  • we're not having a "real" honeymoon either! we're buying a house right now (2 months before the wedding = stress and money woes) and felt we'd prefer to buy a house and get an amazing deal on it than wait to buy a house just so we could have a honeymoon. no big deal. we're trying to figure out a way to go to a nearby island, Ocracoke (we live on the Outer Banks already) for a few days. That way we at least have a few days to just be us!

my parents also went camping for their honeymoon! they have great stories about it!!!

  • I agree, a lot of people wait to take a "real" honeymoon.  FI and I graduated 2 years ago (after 8 years of undergrad + dental school) so we were broke as a joke at that point, too.  Our honeymoon is our first real vacation in over 3 years - be patient, the time & money will come once you guys get settled =]

  • Were not having a honeymoon until the end of the year so that we can go on a cruise. But we plan on go n to Florida for 3 days 2 days after wedding.
  • We're having a "smaller" HM, I guess- We're driving 3 hours to the beach and staying for a week.

We're talking about going to Europe for our anniversary, though :)

  • Have a honey-moon-at-home.  Do something nice with each other (nice dinner, dates, get a couples massage, etc) and just spend a few days enjoying being married.  Then you can take a vacation later.

  • We aren't taking a HM either, unless my parents have something up their sleeve, but with less than two months until our wedding, I highly doubt it.

  • We are waiting to go on ours until September...just too hard to get time off from work for everything all at once.  Maybe look into finding a nice hotel to stay at for a night or two, just to give you some time alone and then plan something when things settle down for you guys.
  • We're not going on one right away either. We have to drive back from MN to Philly afterwards, so we're not even taking a "mini-moon." TBH, I don't think I'm going to want to right away anyway. I have a feeling I'm going to have wedding withdrawl, lol. We're planning on going somewhere warm when it's cold here, so maybe in November or December.
  • We are not doing a real honeymoon either.  FI is currently out of work and vacation time for me doesn't really allow for it.  I hope come Nov we can afford to go somewere for a week even if it is southern CA, or we will do something for our 1 year anny.

  • We aren't having a honeymoon right away. We have classes on the Monday after we get married... we are delaying our honeymoon to the end of August when classes are done for the term and we have 2-3 weeks off. Not sure what we'll do yet. It's kind of nice to not have to think about that during wedding planning :)
