Opinions please!- Dance Floor

I am trying to figure out where I want my dance floor placed. The 20th Century Club recommends that we put the dance floor in the back of the room. I do not like this becaus then our family and friends who are close to the head table won't be able to see to the back of the room for the first dance, cake cutting, etc. Here is that one:

This one is similar to what I had in mind. I liked that everyone was around the dance floor, but I get a little concerned that the people in the back may be annoyed. As an FYI, we are having about 85-100 guests, so about nine tables.

Maybe put the dance floor in front of the head table, then 3 tables each on the remaining 3 sides of the dance floor??  That way, everyone is surrounding the dance floor and everyone should have a pretty good view of what's happening on it. GL!

Does the head table have to be on the side where it is placed now? What about putting it in the center (top right of image) and the dance floor directly in front with tables around?? I'll draw something up on CAD and post what I mean!

The head table needs to stay there since its backdrop is a spectacular fire place. I really don't want to lose that.

I mentioned the dance floor in front of the head table, but then other people said that the people are too far away from the head table, but I feel like I've seen this like this many times...

I like ginny's idea, dance floor near the head table, all the other tables surrounding it.  Everyone will have a good view of the dance floor.  I think sometimes people just end up sitting further away from the bride and groom, and it's nbd.

I second Ginny's and Md' opinion. I think their layout is a good idea.

I agree with Ginny and MD. Honestly, I'm never too concerned about where my table is when at a wedding (that's not true.. there is usually a comment made about how close or far from the bar we are) and if I can't see something, like the first dance or cake cutting.. i move to get a better view!
Now that may not be something your older relatives can do, so I'd be mindfull of where they are, but as for the 'younger' crowd, I wouldn't worry too too much. they will be the ones dancing anyways, and then will be up close when on the dance floor!

I agree - dance floor in front of head table, with other tables surrounding it.  Most weddings, I've been too - the dance floor is directly in front of the head table.  That's what we're doing! ;)

Ditto having the dance floor in front of the head table, a few on either side, and the rest on back side.  I do not like their recommendation of it being in the back.  Glad you posted this bc it is certainly giving me layout ideas;)  Are the tables for 8 or 10?  I vaguely remember Gayle mentioning they prefer 8 to give more space for smaller weddings...however, I am thinking back to Sept/Oct and we were looking at quite a few places.  Maybe she could even show you pics of various set ups.
