More photographer opinions

So as in another post by carlowgirl, I'm trying to decide on a photographer. I went to high school with her and she is an aspiring wedding photographer. She has done quite a few weddings, not sure of the exact number, but she's done some. She is super affordable. She is only 600 for the entire day! FI had a fit when he found out how expensive photographers are and said he thinks it's ridiculous to spend 2000+ on pictures alone. Especially because right now we are on a tight budget, at least until Dad tells me how much he can contribute. (That's a whole other story!) But here his her link. I'd love all of your opinions on what to do! Thanks!

  • I'm with you -- we did not want to spend $2,000-$8,000 on pictures.  I couldn't believe they could cost so much money!  I found someone who is a business student at college who owns two of his own photography businesses -- one is upscale and one is budget-friendly and he shoots for both.  We met with him, he seems very nice, contract looked good, and he is going to cost us $850 for engagements, 6 hours of wedding day coverage, multiple locations, print release, etc.  Are his pictures as amazing as other more expensive photographers?  No, not quite.  But for what we need and want, he'll definitely do.  Just make sure YOU and your FI are happy with the style and quality of the photos this person takes and if so, go for it!

  • I think you should do an e-session first, then decide if you like the outcome.

  • I think I agree with the PP. The pictures look very nice and that's an amazing deal ( I just got my photographer for $1,700 yikes!) but if you're unsure at all I'd say test the water a little before you go ahead and make a deal.

Also, I know nothing about it personally, but I know people who have had a student photographer do their wedding for dirt cheap, I'm sure the quality of the pictures is a little less but if you're happy with that and its in your budget then go for what you like! :)

    Good luck!

  • Thanks ladies, the e session is a good idea, but I'm planning from 8 hours away so I'm not sure if it is an option or not. I think I am going to go for it because it is a good deal with my budget right now. Thanks for the responds!

As said in PP, I'd do an e-session first, but if you can only get her as a "package" then I'd book her. It looks like she's got great photography and could easily charge more. Jump on it! :) To find out more of her style watch her blog (if she has one for her sight) this will let you see A LOT of shots of various people...I did this when looking for our photogs.

p.s. I know what you mean about photogs & $$$...we are spending over $2700...ugh...it hurt the checkbook a bit, but I think it's going to be worth it!
