Caterers

Ok Ladies, for all of you that have already met with your caterers.  Is your caterer providing all of the dishes, utensils, and glasses included in the price or do you have to pay extra??

  • Neither my venue nor my caterer supplies them.  And the only rental place in town, although not necessarily expensive...when you add everything up it is.  Its going to be almost $850 just for dinner plates, salad plates, bread and butter plates, utensils, water goblets and champagne flutes.  This doesn't include all the glasses we'll need for the bar.  Between that and the cost of the caterer its taking up almost half of my budget.  Its so ridiculous!

  • My caterer isn't supplying these things either!! She will be getting everything from the rental company for us, but we are still stuck footing the bill. Food, alcohol, and rentals will be costing us about half (if not more) of our budget as well! :(

I'm in the same boat which was part of the cause for my rant yesterday! The venue only supplies tables and chairs, the caterer doesn't provide any dinnerware or linens and I'm not sure if they provide any beverages (still waiting for that response). We can rent all that stuff for about $500 but that doesn't include alcohol (we can supply our own) and all the mixers plus non-alcoholic beverages. So between the venue, the caterer, the rentals, and the photographer we're already at $5500 of our $7500 budget which doesn't leave a whole lot for a DJ, flowers, officant, centerpieces, favors, invites, save-the-dates, and bridal party gifts (my parents are thankfully buying my dress). This wedding business is stressful stuff!!! Best of luck to you all

  • Mine are all supplied from the caterer. They have 2 standard sets you can choose from, but then of course you can upgrade.( meaning china and silverware) Same thing with the linens, you can choose from black and ivory or both. But again, you can upgrade. We are sticking with what they provided because we went from 130 guests, to 150! so we are going to be right under 9000 with our food and thankfully all gratuity and sales tax and our bar ( beer, wine and a signature drink) is included in that.
  • Nope...We have to get all of that stuff from the rental company we're working with. Here's an idea though...ask about a break in price! They might come down! Or, go slightly outside your area and compare prices with other rental companies...could be better even with a delivery fee!

<div>Yea we go through our caterer for the rental company for the dishware and she told us through her we would get a 10% discount.  I might have to check outside my area as well.</div><div>
</div><div>Our caterer is costing us $4000 and then we are going to have to pay $850 for the bare minimum!  That doesn't even include the glasses we need for the bar, our alcohol (we are having a full bar) or any sodas or mixers. ughhh this is getting ridiculous.  Its just really hitting me how expensive weddings actually are!</div>

  • Well...you're supposed to spend a good chunk of money on the reception, right? My thought is to keep my guests really happy with good food and good drinks in a comfortable, beautiful location. I can skimp a little in other areas where guests wont really notice and make sure that both my guests and I am happy :)

I definitely agree with you greeneke2! Its all starting to sink in just how much this is all going to cost and it's a bit unnerving at times. I know in the end everything will work out but the thought at paying that much for 'rental' dinnerware is crazy (at least to me!!)
