Need Help... Suggestions for Venue after an accident (long)

Well Ladies,
It's been a rough year and my original wedding date was just last week but after a terrible car accident my fiance was in we had to put things off. Over a year in a hospital bed and a few surgeries later and we're back on track! We'd like to plan for next May so that he can hopefully walk and dance at the wedding. Much of our funds have been depleated and we've lost many of our deposites from when we had originally planned a barn wedding. Now, we're thinking a little more intimate (100 guests from 250) and something off the beaten path. We currently attend one of the last surviving city of PGH Luthern Churches which is where we will be holding the ceremony (my family has been there as long as the church has been in existence) and would like someting traditional and vintage. We've thought about the surrounding area and are completley lost on where to go that isn't a million dollars. Our original budget of 20,000 now seems insane and we'd like to do it for about half of that for everything.

I'm a DIYer and I hate the idea of a room or a hall. I'd like something simple and clean as our colors are simply white and ivory.

Any suggestions for something in the PGH area that isn't necessarily a park, hall, hotel or cheesy venue? A nice restuarent or inn? I'm just having trouble getting started. I really appreciate any suggestions and am so thankful for any ideas you have.

  • Hi there! Oh my...what a sad story but imam so thrilled that your fianc is recovering well and you once again planning a wedding! I have a couple suggestions. The first place I thought of was Andora in pine Richland/gibsonia area. My sister had her rehearsal dinner there and it has a beautiful back porch area. The second place is the Morning Glory Inn in the Southside. They have a website and it is a little Bb that has a lovely courtyard. You can always ask a family member or friend who has a big backyard! Best of luck!
  • J.Verno studios is a completely blank slate - you bring in everything.  It can be very clean and simple.  The Morning Glory Inn in the South Side is apparently affordable, too, but I never looked into it too much.

Best of luck to you and your fiance!

  • I'm so sorry to hear your story, but I am sure you two have become stronger as a result and I'm glad to your FI is recovering. When I was looking for a venue the restaurant that stood out to me was The Hyeholde. From the pictures it looks really pretty. It is on the knot Pittsburgh venues section. Hope this helps!
  • I don't have any suggestions for what you're looking for but wanted to commend you for your positive attitude.  After all that you've been through, you still seem so positive and moving forward.  I'm glad he is on the road to recovery.  God bless you and your fiancee and I hope you both have a wonderful life together. :)

Sorry to hear what you have been through.

Our reception was at the Edgewood Club on Pennwood (right off of Penn, right before you cross under the traintracks leading into Wilkinsburg).  It is an historic building, has hardwood floors throughout and French doors leading to an outdoor patio.  It is also one of the most affordable venues I could find - they let you bring your own liquor and there are three caterers at different price points.  My wedding had 150 people and I did it for half of your original budget.

For 100 people, you could probably have your wedding at the Pgh Center for the Arts, within your budget, but it might be stretching it a little far.  The Parador Inn or the Aviary might be a good option for what you are looking for, as well.  Good luck!

  • It's a little far from where your church is (Mt. Pleasant), but Bell's Banquets fits all of your other requirements!  Especially if you had previously wanted a barn wedding.  I looked at it as a venue, but it was to small for my 200 guests!  Their packages include alot too!

I got an email back from The Parador Inn saying they are no longer doing weddings. And the Aviary does all their catering exclusively through Atria's. We went and looked at the Aviary, it was up there on our list until we visited Succop. That's where we are having it at. Oh and I think Bells Banquets would def work, too!

kmsst48 - I have a list of 40 venues I researched in the past 2 months. I can send you the Excel spreadsheet if you'd like. 98% of them are non-hall type places. You may like the Mayernik Center in the North Hills or Succop in Butler or The Atrium in Butler even though they are a distance away. Email me at vcwheeler@gmail.com and I can send it to you!

And wow, I applaud your strength. Such a testament to unconditional love.
  • You hould try the Holiday Inn airport. We are always willing to work with peoples buget!
