FI used a tax service to do his taxes this year because he moved from out of state and he worked in a few different cities. FI called today to make the payment due on his city taxes and they told him they did not have any record of him filing so they wouldn't take the payment! Now, neither of us can get a hold of his tax lady. Either she is going to pay his penalty or the different is coming out of her fee. This sucks.

I had this exact problem happen to me.
I had an accountant do my 2010 taxes last may. Hadnt heard from canada revenue by the summer, called them to change my address and they hadn't received my taxes.
So for months I had a back and forth with my accountant with her assuring me they had been sent and saying she would figure it out.
months and month later... call them again and still havent received my taxes. Needless to say FI called my accountant and gave her crap. I sent in a hard copy of my taxes with a cheque and explaination about why it was late. So far I have not heard from them saying I owe them interest. Soo hopefully they cut me a break.
The accountant did say she would pay any interest I owed (which would have been over $100). So I would get at the accountant that she has to pay. Apparently you could get her in A LOT of trouble for not following through with completing his taxes.
