Ceremony Seating WWYD?

Hi Ladies

FI comes from a really small family.  It's just him, his mom 2 aunts and 2 cousins.  And his cousins are not attending the wedding.  I come from a huge family.  Our numbers are pretty lopsided and we are having some mutual friends at our wedding but I'm afraid that if we do the traditional bride on the left, groom on the right it's going to look empty "on his side".  Since our wedding is pretty small ( 40 ppl including us) do you think we can just have the 2 GM put people in open seats on either side as they arrive?

thoughts?

  • We have about 50 ppl, and we will not be doing traditional seating either. I plan to have my nephew let everyone know they can sit anywhere :)
  • We are having about 106 people and our sides are uneven too, we are just having our ushers reserve the first 2 rows for close family and then the rest of our guests can sit on either side.

  • It's your wedding,  I say do what you want to!  My side is the small and FI comes from a big family.  We're intermingling our guests.  Another thing you could do depending on where your ceremony will be is have chairs set up in a U shape all facing you.  I saw it done in a magazine for a wedding that was outside.  It looked very nice and unique too!

This is similar to what we are doing except we won't have ushers just bows on the aisle marking the 2 rows reserved on each side.

  • We are having totally open seating for our 112 guests with the exception of the front row, which is for parents, grandparents, and close relatives. We plan to just have the DOC or BMs greeting people and saying "please take a program and sit wherever you'd like"

  • Yep, I think it would be totally fine to mix sides.

  • We are reserving the first row for family and the second row for "elderly guests" (who will not know that its reserved other then the ushers telling everyone else not to sit there and encouraging them to sit there) other then that it will be open seating, our ushers will communicate that.
