STD confusion

So most all of you saw the STD that FI and I sent out.

I have been getting a lot of people calling me, texting me and emailing me over the past few days to let me know that they received the INVITATION that we sent out and that they will be happy to come.

WTH?

It's very awkward. Has this happened to any of you?

weird- I didn't get any of this.  Did you have "formal invitation to follow" on it?

Hmm, strange. I remember the look of your STD but not the wording....did you say something like "Invitation to follow" on it? Even if not, I wonder how so many people can confuse "save the date" with an actual invitation.

We didn't have any problems with ours.

We had the same thing happen.  We just kind of "mentally noted" it, but didn't count people as yeses until we got their actual response card back from the invites.  We would say something like "Oh, we're glad you like the STDs, wait until you see the invites!"

    Yep, said
    "Save The Date"
    "Formal invitation to follow"
All that usual stuff. What they did not say was all the usual stuff that an invite says. You know like the location of the wedding or the time.

    I'm so confused!

Sigh, people can be so confusing.

I like what Shannon said - just thank them for saving the date for you and remind them that the actual invite with the RSVP info will be there in a few months.

Sh- Thank you for saying I'm not alone! We are certainly not counting these as RSVPs but just trying to kindly remind them that the invites will go out in a the summer some time.

Some old school people don't know about save the dates. :) I said something like "Oh, this is a card they call save the date. It goes out before the wedding; a lot of brides are doing this now to give more advance notice. There is still a wedding invitation; this is just in addition to."

I figure that way, they won't be confused forever, haha. :)

Haha, this hasn't been happening for us, but I think Shannon's advice is good.  Weird!  Maybe they weren't clear in what they meant, and actually meant something like, "I got your STD and I am excited for the wedding!"

Kwynn- If it were coming from the older people on our guest list that would make sense but this is coming from people like my sisters and some of our friends. It's just odd.

Lafem- Maybe that's what they meant and they just said invite instead.

Either way I'm hoping this just means people are excited about the wedding.
Thanks for helping me to not feel crazy. :)
