No professional videographer...having someone else do it?

My photographer did offer us an add on to our package for only $500 for video, but his videographer is really inexperienced and personally I think the videos I've seen from them so far aren't worth paying much for...

I would love more than anything to have a super fancy movie trailer style wedding montage but I really can't afford it. 

Is anyone having a friend or relative take video of the wedding? What are they going to use to record it/what parts are you asking them to record? Are you paying them?

We are doing home video style. We're actually going to have a few Flip cameras and people can record various things. I will for sure have someone taping the ceremony and special stuff at the reception, but I like the feel of home video.

We are asking a cousin (who brings his video camera to every event anyways) to make sure he gets the ceremony, and to burn a copy for us. Hadn't thought of paying him, so never mentioned it, but now that you mention it I think I will try and get him a gift card or something.

Pictures are more important to us, since they can be displayed not watched once in the next 50 years. So we blew the photo/video budget on getting good photography.

I definitely see where you are coming from, and my sister is/was a professional photographer (now it's more of a hobby) so I have an awesome photographer.

Lately, though, several people have said they still cherish their wedding video. While they don't watch it as frequently as they see pictures, they loved watching it right after the fact and periodically (on anniversaries) bust it out to relive the happy memory. This is why I am literally scrambling at the last minute. 

I looked up flip cams and they run around $150-200, and if I get several they will add up to my photographer's add on price.

Ugh, I'm going through this too.  I just want to ask someone if they'll record our ceremony, that's really all I want!

Same. On of my step-aunts always brings her video camera to weddings and records them, so I figured we'd just ask her for a copy. I just want the ceremony, speeches, and first dance ...

I found Flip cameras for $50 at Best Buy. FYI :)

OK?? Just checked Best Buy website and they no longer have Flip cameras?!

Flip cams were discontinued last year, I just looked on amazon and that was all they had.
