NWR: Cooking

Between you & your FI, who cooks more? FI used to cook all the time when we lived at school together (since I had class until 9pm everyday). But now, since I'm a SAHM, I cook about 99% of the time. I love it! And I love baking even more! I'm all about trying new recipes :)

Also, if you do the cooking, what are some of the "staple" meals that you make? What are your favorite websites to get recipes from, besides Pinterest ;) LOL I'm always up for new recipes, so if you have a keeper, please share!

Re: NWR: Cooking

  • When FI cooks, it's called take out.

I do most of the cooking at home. I don't really have recipes, I cook by taste really.

  • I do ~90% of the cooking.  I really enjoy it too.  I wish I had more time for it, but haven't been able to find much recently.  When I had lots of free time I started a blog.  Haven't been updating that for over a month now with the stress of the wedding and job and life.

I love epicurious!  Foodgawker has become a newer obsession along with Pinterest.  Other than that I like to let my creativity take over.

I used to be the only one who cooked, but then I got really busy with work and couldn't do a lot anymore. FI has really taken a lot of initiative and learned to cook several things, and I love it!

Now we are fairly even, although I am always looking for new recipes too. I definitely wish I had more time to cook, although I admit I hate the clean up that big meals entail!

Tonight we are having crock pot french dips. Love the crockpot!

    ETA: I go to Skinnytaste.com a lot!

  • I like cooking when I'm in the mood for it. And I cook 95% of the time. When FI cooks he just throws something frozen in the oven. And I do that alot of the time too cuz we both work full time and by the time we're home sometimes I just dont wanna waste my night away in the kitchen. So we just try to find quick and easy things. But sometimes I can be susy homemaker and make a Great home cooked meal.

we're still long distance so i cook all the time and he eats out a lot  haha

i feel like a huge dork and like i'm hugely contributing to the female stereotype by saying this... but... one of the things i'm most looking forward to about being married and living together is getting to cook him dinner.  hahaha

everytime i try a new recipe i think, "oh stefan would like this.." or "he would like this recipe with this, this and that..." etc etc..

a staple around my house right now is roasted chicken.  because i've been SO busy lately, i'll cook a bunch of chicken on the weekend then add it to various recipes throughout the week.  i'll make chicken salad sandwhiches, throw it on top of a spinach salad, heat it up with some steamed veggies, etc.

ETA: I would like to echo pp, i LOVE skinnytaste.com !!

  • It kind of depends on what's going on work-wise. During my busy season (I'm an accountant), he'll usually step in and help me more. When I'm not busy, I try to cook more. FI is actually pretty decent at it, especially when it comes to season. Taking a cooking class is one thing we eventually plan to do because we could both use a little help haha

  • I do the majority of the cooking in our house. FI isn't the best at cooking and to spare his feelings I just take over :)

I've been trying to find new recipes lately because I am sick of eating the same things every week. Some of our staples include chicken pot pie, steak on the grill, nachos (so not good for us but its our guilty pleasure) and pasta. I recently came across a recipe (Thanks Pinterest!!) for braided spaghetti bread and we love it!!

Here is the website for the recipe:

The majority of my food ideas come from Pinterest and I have a ton that I need to try. Once I do, I will definitely let you ladies know whats good and what isn't :)

  • I like to cook... but I'm still learning.  FI and I don't live together yet, but I definitely cook more.  He likes to fix breakfast-for-supper and he loves to grill.  We cook together often as well.

I'm big on casseroles and crock pot dinners... not sure why.  Love to try out new recipes, but the levek of pickiness in FI makes it difficult sometimes.  I can't wait until we live together and can have dinner together every night!  =)

PINTEREST is my new best friend when it comes to cooking.  I also use allrecipes.com often and skinnytaste.com

  • I do all the cooking. If I'm not around to cook dinner (working late, doc appointment, etc) FI will order out.

I love to cook so I don't mind doing it all the time! I also have about 6 pinterest boards dedicated to food, separated by category!

I do most of the cooking, we cook about 5-6 times a week, FI cooks usually once a week and we usually treat ourselves to takeout once a week. The arrangement is that if one person cooks, the other cleans up...I hate to clean the kitchen so I prefer to cook. it works for us.

I also have a FI who's idea of making dinner is ordering take out or making a frozen pizza. So I cook most of the time which is fine because I really like it. Cooking during the summer has been tough in our apartment because it gets so warm, so I'm hoping to use my crock pot all summer. I LOVE my crock pot!

Other than Pinterest and skinnytaste.com I've been making a lot of recipes from budgetbytes.blogspot.com. I made her bolognese last night and it was AMAZING!!
This weekend I'm going to try making Indian food. I'm kinda really excited about it, it may be the highlight of my weekend!

  • I do about 99% of the cooking. Although he loves to cook me breakfast (if he wakes up before me.) I'm constantly trying to cook new things. I love Pinterest for food. Also I have an app on my phone for receipes.com it has a spinner that you can choose time and what food to cook and it will give you all kinds of ways to cook it.

Our staples are chicken because you can do so many things with it. Also I'm very picky so I usually cook more than 1 meal a night something for me and something for him. That's the reason I cook more because he eats anything and I eat almost nothing so there is very few we eat together. Also I try to make pizza about 20 different ways to mix it up lol.

We also have a night we call Hodge Podge night and basically we will cook bagel bites, fries, chicken nuggets, cheese sticks, just whatever we find that we can pop in the oven and cook real quick. Instead of ordering out this is our we don't feel like cooking idea.
  • We're long distance, so we each do our own cooking. I have a subscription to Cooking Light mag ... it's great!
  • I do most of the cooking. He sometimes cooks dinner if I am at the gym late. He is great about cooking breakfast on the weekends. He is also great with new recipes we always cooks those together. He helps when I ask, but I do enjoy cooking.

We get a lot of our new recipes from allrecipes.com

  • I do all of the cooking. FI is not the best cook but he likes just about everything I make :) yay! I use pinterest :) and I look at skinnytaste but FI is not huge into veggies :(. His FAVE is the ranch roasted potatoes! You coat the potates in olive oil & salt and pepper and roast them (@375) till you think they are appropriately roasted, about 90 minutes for us, and then coat them in ranch dressing. Delicious :)
  • I do all of the cooking, unless it involves grilling or Greek food- Then FI is all over it.

I use Pinterest, Everyday Food magazine, and the Rachael Ray magazine for inspiration... I also recently got Mark Bittman's How to Cook Everything and am in LOVE with it.

We try to eat meat only once or twice a week, so our staples are lots of kinds of beans, quinoa, and whole wheat pasta.

  • It's about fifty/fifty. Actually, my FI is a much better cook than me (although I'm not too bad!). He just has a gift. I get a little jealous of him sometimes though. We go out about once or twice on the weekend usually one or both nights of the weekend. Some of my staples are asain foods and veggie enchiladas (my favorite). I just google different recipes and read reviews before trying a new recipe.
  • When FI and I first moved in together I did all of the cooking, but after FI got comfortable cooking he requested it be his "job" to cook and clean up after dinner. It's awesome! I do all of the cleaning so its a good system for us.

We get Taste of the Home Simple and Delicious magazine and we usually pick out meals in there to have. Or we look on their website or allrecipes.com

  • FI does probably 90% of the cooking.  I usually clean up after dinner, and all that, and I make salads for us.  But the real meals are his.

When we met, he had his house, and I lived in an apartment with a roommate.  I spent more time at his house than he did at mine, but he wouldnt' ever let me help out by cooking or cleaning, (or shoveling... or anything.)

There are days or weeks where I'll cook more than he does, but we always end up with him cooking more often than me.  I think he likes it... and I also think he agrees that he's better at it, even if he won't admit to that :)
