Welcome bags and favors?

So, we are having a destination wedding and everyone will be staying atleast one night. I wanted to make welcome bags for each guest room that they will recieve when they check in at the hotel. I wasn't planning on anything elaborate....a few bottels of water, a small bag of local potato chips, maybe some chocolates. Since I am giving these, do I or should I also give favors? I have been to weddings before when favors get left behind and I find it a waste. But I was thinking of having our cake baker make cookies in the shape of Martha's Vineyard (FI liked this idea), put them into cellophane bags, and put a ribbon in our colors around the top. I could also add these cookies to the bags and only do the bags and no favor. What do you ladies think?

Re: Welcome bags and favors?

  • We're doing the same thing (going to Antigua) and I'm making OOT bags to include: a program for the weekend, custom soaps from Etsy, snack packs, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, and a gift for them depending on girl or boy :) Cookies would be a good idea as long as they can travel well

  • I think it's perfectly fine to add the cookies to the bags and skip favors.  I've been thinking about ditching favors all together for the same reason you have.  I just can't be bothered! lol
  • I think that's a great idea!

  • You don't have to give favors at a wedding at all, period, even if you don't do the gift basket.  I agree with your assessment, I think favors are usually a waste of money.

But I think gift baskets for the hotel rooms are a great idea with snacks.  I went to a wedding about 5 hours away in September, and it was so nice to get into the room and have something to snack on after a long drive!  My vote is to put all the budget into gift baskets, not gift baskets AND favors.

  • I would say if you're going to do the cookies either way give them as a favor. I'm a big fan of favors. And if you have any left over feel free to send them to me so you don't waste your money... I love cookies! :-)

  • I think either is fine.  I'm a fan of favors too, and I kind of like getting them at the wedding.  However, the last wedding I was at they put their favors in the OOT bag, and it worked out great.
  • we're doing welcome bags and skipping the favors since about 90% of our guests will be from out of town (including us!)  haha  :)  But we're doing a milk & cookie bar with the cake and if i were to choose a favor it would probably be cookies anyway :-P
  • Thanks, ladies! I just hope these cookies won't be too expensive. I haven't even asked my baker yet. But I think people will appreciate the cookies more than a  candle.
