Tipping Vendors

I tried to search for previous posts on this, but the search function isn't working for me, so here we are.  I'm trying to figure out how tipping for vendors works; I'm thinking that I need to tip DJ, photog, and florist delivery-- but I wasn't sure about the officiants.  Also, I have no clue how much to tip.  Any input would be appreciated!

    hey ash-almost there! yay!

we ended up not tipping any of our vendors, since they were all the owners of their respective businesses. it wasn't planned that way though. it started with the photog-when i told her i had forgotten her TY & tip she nearly turned rabid, insisting we not tip her, that she owned her own business and therefore should not be tipped, and that we best take that money with us on our HM. i got the same response from the florist. i didn't get quite the same response from the DJ, which sort of miffed me, since he was the owner of his own business as well, and that sort of solidified that he had made enough money from us and the fact that he had the opposite attitude as the other vendors was sort of...i dunno. whatever. regardless, all of our vendors were owners and made 100% of the profit, so no tips were given.

however, if we had tipped, i suppose it would have been $20-50/vendor, depending on the vendor and what their services cost. i.e., i likely would have tipped the hair stylist $20 for me ($15 for each BM probably) (she may have been tipped, i have no idea, she was paid after i left for pictures), the florist, dj & officiant would probably have been about $50/ea. i don't know why i think to do the stylist less, maybe that isn't appropriate. it's just my gut reaction. like i said, since we didn't actually tip, i don't have personal experience with it.

I'm super close-- just wrapping up loose ends now!

I was hoping you'd respond because some of our vendors are the same.  I was thinking the same thing, about owning their own businesses.  All of them do, except for the hair stylist, and I'll just tip her like I normally do.  I just wanted to make sure I wasn't being an asshole.

i thought i would feel that way also, but since all but the dj responded the way that they did i took it for what it was. i knew that the rule of thumb was that if they owned their own business then you don't tip (which goes for anyone that provides a service), but still.

good luck wrapping up the loose ends! enjoy the week/weekend!

Thanks :o)  If I could just get work under control, I'd probably feel less stressed, but I'm swamped this week, of course.
