Bad weather prep

What are you doing to prep for bad weather?

I have the ceremony taking place indoors as a back up plan and was thinking about getting some cute umbrellas so we could at least get some cute pics if it rains. What else is there to do?

Re: Bad weather prep

  • I too am keeping my eyes out for clear or green umbrellas. Mostly I am praying it doesnt rain because there are pictures that I REALLY want outside...and I need a good sunset :S

  • Our location allows us to move our ceremony into the reception area if it rains. But I really how there is no rain.

  • I worked out with my day-of coordinator and the wedding consultant at the venue a giant contingent plan for every part of the whole day and even picked a place inside the venue where group/family and romance pix will be taken.  Pictures were not that important to me so I did not stress on that.  I am lucky that the venue has some lovely indoor spaces.  The wweather in Colorado at the end of May can be blazing hot, terrible snow or perfect.  Let's hope for perfect!!

All snark aside - I'll have an umbrella on standby for getting out of cars & into buildings.

  • Our ceremony is outside on the covered porch of the venue (hotel). SO, if it rains, we'll be okay. Unless, of course, it's super windy. Then we might be screwed! lol. I'm going to keep my eye on the weather and pray for atleast no rain. If it rains, I am not sure where we can take pictures besides the porch and lobby (there's a beautiful fireplace).

I have my eye on some clear and colored umbrellas on Amazon. Once we get closer and the forecasts start to come out, I'll order them if rain is possible.

I'll have to pay for express shipping, but I don't want to order them if I don't need to.

ETA: I'm currently loving this one.

Ditto all of this :) Our ceremony & reception are inside, so all we'll really need to "prep" a back-up plan for is our pictures we wanted outside (& really, those can be taken anywhere indoors). I will definitely have an umbrella on standby!

  • We chose a venue that has an indoor space in case of rain.  It won't be ideal, but it's there if we need it!  I agree with some pps, I would be more upset not being able to get some of the pictures that I want outside.  Anyways, we're hoping for the best but prepared for the worse!

  • Panther, I love that umbrella...  Where did you find it?  Its exactly what i've been looking for!!!

Our venue has an indoor ceremony space.  We can choose that or have it in the reception space.  They also have tent companies they work with that we could use if we wanted to for the ceremony area.  I guess you pay half of the fee, and if you need it day of, you pay the other half, if not, you don't.  I decided we'd just move the ceremony indoors if we need to.

Originally, I was looking to have the ceremony indoors, but when I saw the lake, I knew I wanted the ceremony there.

  • While our venues are indoors we picked the church because of all the natural light it had with skylights and huge windows behind us. If it rains we will be okay BUT our pictures will look weird with the rain in the background which will suck. Also our reception venue has 2 huge windows where we will have lights in and if it's raining that may make it more noticeable. But at least I'm not having to worry about moving my whole wedding or anything.
  • I have to decide 3 days ahead of day if I want definitely want it indoors or if I want to chance it.  If I decide indoors, they will set up reception hall with the aisle and stuff.  If I want to chance it and decide the day of that we have to have it inside, we can still do it, but the tables will all be set up and guests will sit at tables instead of rows of seats with an aisle.  They have a cool set up in the middle that we can have our ceremony.

  • Our ceremony is on a huge covered promenade so we'll be fine if it rains, and can take pictures there if needed, and there is also an art museum nearby that we can take pictures at if it rains. When checking the weather the week of, if it's calling for rain we'll pick up some umbrellas, but I don't want to order anything because I'd like to be able to return them if we don't use them.
  • Both our ceremony and reception are indoors in a BEAUTIFUL venue (clicky!), so I'm not going to be too disappointed if we have to take all the pictures inside.  I've been thinking about getting this umbrella (clicky!) for myself for traveling between the car and the venue.  I'll probably look into something similar for the ladies.
  • Our ceremony is inside of a beautiful church and then our reception is at a golf club under a tent, so if it rains we are all covered... except for having outdoor photos...

  • I'm contemplating getting some pink rainboots to go with my theme in case it rains. Talk about cute pictures! What do you guys think? Worth it to invest in rainboots when I already have some (really ugly ones) I wouldn't dare wear in pictures?
