Makeup help

So, I had a makeup consult when I was home over spring break (FI and I are at school OOT from venue). I convinced myself it went fine...but really it didn't. The MUA commented on the makeup I was wearing negatively (rude) and she didn't listen to what I asked for on a few different things. Looking back at pics she also went way too heavy on the eyeliner and gave me crazy eyes. BTW this is at the salon my mom and I have gone to for years for our hair and that us and all of my BMs are having our day-of hair done at.

So now I feel totally stuck because I won't be back in town until the week of the wedding! We will be back probably Monday night and the wedding is Saturday. I feel like it's super risky to do my makeup trial the week of the wedding because if I hate it and decide to cancel I may end up with nothing!

I had my makeup done by a MAC artist for prom several years ago and I remember liking them, so I'm considering giving them a call to see if they have any availability. Should I book something with them and with somewhere else? If so, where? Any thoughts or recommendations? TIA!

Re: Makeup help

  • If you were not happy with your MUA during spring break...I personally wouldn't go back. Go to the person you liked for prom.  Or if there is someone else at the salon that you are getting your hair done at.  Another option that girls around here have used, is a beauty school.  I know we've gone to the beauty school for several weddings here and they have done a great job and so resonably priced.  They listen really well and I have never had a problem with them going crazy or giving us crazy thick makeup before.  Something to consider!  GL

  • I agree with PP, if they weren't listening to you go somewhere else. I am so sorry this happened to you! I wasn't really happy with my makeup, but my MUA did everything in her power to make me happy, she kept saying "this is your day, you need to love it", "it won't hurt my feelings if you don't, it will hurt my feelings if you don't like it and don't tell me."

  • Are you getting married in Austin?  If so, I would highly recommend the place where I am getting my makeup done.  They did an amazing job at making things look natural and yet, I felt so pretty and a whole lot younger.  :)  And, I wanted airbrush, which is more expensive, and she talked me out of it because she said she doesn't think the final look is worth the cost.  Especially living in Texas where it can get pretty warm, she explained that if there is any perspiration, you can't touch up airbrush the same way you can standard makeup.
The place is Rae Cosmetics and the owner is Rochelle.  She will be doing my makeup for the wedding while another artist takes care of my MOH.
Let me know if you want anymore info!! :)
  • I just sent them an email - I've never heard of Rae but if you're happy with them I'm going to give it a shot! Thanks!

  • I agree, makeup is one thing you don't want to be unhappy with - it'll be in all your photos forever!  I ended up switching MUAs, too, after I wasn't thrilled with my original trial.

  • Hope they will be able to help you.  My initial MUA was Lauren and she was wonderful.  In fact, she helped me with something that could have been a disaster.  About 2 weeks before we took our engagement photos, I had the bright idea to have a facial peel done (the doc assured me it would be great in time for the pics).  Well, I still had red blotches 2 days before our shoot and I was so mad.  Lauren made time for me, worked her magic and our pics turned out amazing.  I truly hope you have a great experience with them!  :)
