waxing before boudoir shoot (TMI?)

this may be TMI but we're all adults here...

i'm planning to get a brazillian before my boudoir shoot, and i had tossed around the idea of waxing my under arms also (never done that before)  how long in advance should i get this done?  i heard under arms can stay red and swollen for a day or so, i was planning to schedule the waxing appointment for the day before the photo shoot but don't want red spotchy skin in my photos!

advice, please?

Re: waxing before boudoir shoot (TMI?)

  • I've only ever had my eyebrows waxed so I can't speak from experience, but I would think two days would be sufficient. Enough time to heal if you get tender and splotchy but not too far away that it defeats the purpose of getting waxed.

  • I've never had a bikini or underarm wax, but one of my friends had both done before her wedding & she had hers done 2 days before the big day. I didn't see her bikini wax (obviously) LOL, but her underarms weren't red/swollen at all!

  • I might give it 3 days just to make sure?  I think the longer & more you wax an area, the tougher it gets, but if you've never had it done before I'd err on the side of extra time vs. your photog having to retouch your photos.

Good luck, let us know how it goes - I kind of want to try it, but I'm kind of a chicken =]

  • I get brazilians all the time, and I'm fine after a couple hours.  That said, I have pretty tough skin - I know a lot of people stay red longer than that.  Honestly, I would say that now's not the time to experiment.  If you have enough time before the shoot, I would try it once 4-6 weeks before, and then do it again a couple days before if everything came out alright.  I've never waxed my pits, but I'd say the same goes for them, too, the skin is probably similar.

Agree with this. I'd give it about 3 days especially since it will be your first time getting your underarms waxed. I've never done it before (although I have done the brazillian) and it took about 2 solid days to feel/look normal again!

  • i used to have the brazillian done fairly frequently, i would have it done during lunch and be fine by that evening.  but it's been over a year, so it'll be like my first time all over again  haha  i may stick with three days like y'all suggested.

for some reason having my underarms done makes me more nervous than the brazillian  hahaha  i may just use a new razor blade that morning before the shoot  lol  :-P

thanks for the advice, ladies :)
  • I used to get regular brazillians but stopped awhile back to save money. If it's your first wax, I would give it 3 days for the skin to calm down. I've never had my underarms done but I think it's a safe bet to also give that 3 days.

Be sure you go somewhere reputible and have someone experienced do it! I have had a couple of bad experiences and now is definitely not a time for you to be patchy lol

  • So for all you ladies who have done the brazilians - how bad is it, really?  I have my eyebrows and upper lip waxed with no problems / almost painless, but for some reason I'm hesitant to try it....

It's not fun....it hurts a lot! But there are some parts that don't hurt as bad as others. After a while you get kind of numb to the pain! I took a few advil before the appointment to take some of the initial pain away. I've only done it once, and will be doing it again before the wedding and I'm still nervous even though I've done it once before.

  • i used to take 4 ibuprofen about 30 mins before my appointment.  also, don't do it immediately before or after your period, your skin is always more sensitive then.

one time i did it like a day or two before my period started and it was SIGNIFICANTLY more painful than any other time i've done it.
  • I would think maybe any bumps could be airbrushed out on your armpits... Maybe get them waxed before and see how it goes.
