Frozen Drinks...Part 3

Continuing where I left off, with my future mother in law going to my venue demanding frozen drinks...without my knowledge. Since then we (my FI and I) have gotten a call everyday asking about frozen drinks. Finally last night she said "we want them, so you will have them." My FI informed her that if they want them, they will have to pay for them, we both do not want frozen drinks. The next thing you know, they are on speaker phone yelling and swearing about the drinks. Literally swearing. I didn't even know what to say. I have never heard adults throwing a tantrum like that over a beverage.

I seriously think this goes beyond the drinks and has something to do with the fact they are being told no. I, being emotional, started to cry and told my FI how his mother is mad at me for my decision. He asked her and she didn't respond, she just said she had to go and hung up.

Before the hang up, we talked about the cost of the bar and how even though we are grateful that they are contributing 2 grand, that doesn't cover even beer and wine. I am thinking the total cost of the bar with frozen drinks would be at least 5 grand. Just plain and simple, we don't want to pay that bill for drinks we don't care to have. She then went on to say that she can't wait for this to be over with and she has already spent too much money on this wedding. FYI- I have paid for EVERYTHING on my own. (No complaining) but I am wondering where she is getting this thought.

My FI is going to nicely decline the use of their money and hopefully I will never hear the word frozen drinks again.

I am sure there will be a part 4.

Re: Frozen Drinks...Part 3

  • Good for you guys - declining money that was apparenntly "too much" for her to spend.  What a raging b#tch, this is so ridiculous that it is gone this far.  You'd think once your told her outright that neither you or your FI wanted frozen drinks she'd have dropped it.  Monster-in-law!

  • Im so sorry you have to deal wth this, on the bright side only a couple more weeks and the wedding will happen frozen drinks or water! Im sure she would have a fit at my wedding, I am providing one bottle of wine per table and when it runs out no more alchohol....maybe you can tell her to bring ice to put in her drink, then it will be frozen??? (just joking, but I would be tempted to say something like that!)

  • This is totally ridiculous! I can't believe it's come to this point. I'm sorry you're dealing with crazy people :( You guys definitely made the right decision declining the money, I have a feeling you would never hear the end of it even after the wedding.

  • Wow, I can't believe it has gotten to this! There's definitely a hidden frustration and she's using the frozen drinks as a scape goat.

  • Wow, yikes. I don't care how much money she is (was) contributing, that sort of behavior is totally unacceptable. Good call on you guys declining the money, TOTALLY not worth $2000. If it were me, there is no way in HELL I would have frozen drinks, whether I could afford it or not, just to spite them.
