GMA This Morning

Does/Did anyone else watch Good Morning America this morning? They had a thing on growing trends with wedding dresses.
1. COLORED dresses. Not color on the dresses like pure black dresses or red.
2. PANTS. Like one piece pant suits.
3. SLITS. Straight up the front of the dress
4. SLEEVES. Similar to what Kate had when marrying the Prince. And then some solid sleeves

Some of these are not so bad but then some I don't find to "trendy". What do you ladies think about these new designs?

Re: GMA This Morning

  • I really disliked the pant suit one and the black one. I might just be really old fashioned but I really wanted a white (ok my dress is ivory.. haha) dress for my wedding.

  • I'm a fan of the sleeves, but that's about it from that list!

  • I think having a colored dress is fine, but only if it's something like a blush pink or super light blue.  Any other color and it start to look like a prom dress.  I really love lace sleeves...solid, no.
  • i'm not a huge fan of the colored dress trend, but that's just my opinion.

i actually love the sleeve trend because it's SO HARD to find a dress that isn't strapless, all i wanted was straps and that was hard enough to find.  i think just having the option will be great for a lot of brides that may be more conservative.

formal dresses in general with sleeves are hard to find, we've been looking for something for my mom like that for months.

the slits could be ok, or they could be really trashy.... it depends how high the slit is  hahaha

This.  I've seen some dresses with slits that looked really nice. It just depends on how hight it is/the rest of the design. And it would be nice for there to be more dresses with straps. I didn't find any when I was looking, but I ended up falling in love with a strapless gown anyway.

But honestly, people shouldn't worry about what the trend is; just get the dress that you want. It kind of sounds like the designers got bored and want to play with people's heads lol.

  • 1)  Meh.  I know white has only been "tradition" for a couple of hundred years, but it's a tradition I like.  I think some brides who don't might regret it later on.  I've read that Sarah Jessica Parker wore black and regrets it:

    2) pantsuit.....in 2012??  File under women still wearing pantyhose =]

    3) I am more of a semi=side slit lady myself!  Could be sexy for a beach wedding

    4) Love lace sleeves.  Can be beautiful when done correctly.  Not for me personally, though.

  • Colored dresses definitely make for a less traditional wedding. Not really the route I'd go. But, I see it working for some brides. And I'm all for a bride having the dress that makes her feel like a bride.

Don't like the idea of a pantsuit for a bride. I can see that working for the same sex ceremonies, though. However, it would be funny that the bride would be making the statment that she'd be 'wearing the pants' in the family too. lol.

Depends on the dress for the sleeves. I love the lace sleeves. Solid would have to be for the right kind of dress and obviously the season.

I almost chose a dress that had a front slit. It was a beautiful lace dress. My problem with it was the slit was too high and I didn't feel comfortable revealing the front of my thighs like that. lol.

I think some colored dresses are nice, especially when its got a cultural element (red in a chinese wedding, purples and.or red in a east indean wedding (or any colored saris really), I hate the idea of a black wedding dress...come on is it so bad that you have to get married that you are going to dress for a funeral? I dont see getting married as an even to mourn personally.Wearing color just to be trendy comes off as kind of jr.high promish to me. But unfortuntatly it is becoming more of a trend.

pantsuits are gross and with the execption of a lesbian couple who still wants a traditional looking wedding, I havnt seen this much at all...so not sure why it would be considered trendy.

Slits....meh. It's a formal event..save it for the new years party.

sleeves. If thats peoples style thats peoples style, but honestly I think it has more to do with religious background/where the wedding is then it has to do wth being trendy. I have had friends who had to cover thier arms for the ceremony of thier weddings, so some got dresses with sleeves others got sleeveless or strapless and got a heavy shawl to put over thier shoulders or get boleros.
